Some Terminology

• Integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET)– The Project

– Currently only covers the Aeronautical Test Environment

– Mission is to enhance existing telemetry systems• Goal is not to replace existing telemetry systems

• Telemetry Network System– Enhancement of existing systems to incorporate standardized networking technologies

– Segments – used for segmenting work with the project• Radio Access Network Segment (RANS)

– Basically everything to create a wireless RF network

• Range Operations Segment (ROS)– Essentially everything necessary to manage the range resources to establish two-way network connectivity

between the mission control room and the Test Article

• Telemetry Ground Segment (TGS)– Fundamentally all the applications for a test mission to utilize the network for mission conduct

• Test Article Segment (TAS)– Basically all network instrumentation on the test article minus the radio

– Subsystems – used to help explain the system from an operational viewpoint• Mission Control Subsystem

– Fundamentally all the applications for a test mission to utilize the network for mission conduct

• Range Operations Subsystem– Essentially everything necessary to manage the resources to establish communications between the Mission

Control Room and the Test Article

• RF Subsystem– Basically all wireless communications between the TA and the Ground

• Test Article Subsystem– Basically all the wired communications on the test article

Link Manager Capability/Functionality

• The LM is responsible for optimized control and coordination of radio operation across multiple radios in the Radio Access Network (RAN)

– Dynamically allocates the RF network capacity provided to all tests using the RAN so as to efficiently share the constrained RF resource

– Provides Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) controller functionality to allocate slots for RF transmission among all uplinks and downlinks between radios located in Ground Stations and on Test Articles

• It provides the radios with operational parameters required to coordinate RF link establishment, handovers, and efficient operation

– Antenna Control Unit (ACU) functionality is usually not

physically part of the Ground Station Tracking Antenna

and is usually located in a separate physical unit nearby

• The ACU functionality, which is expected to be provided by an

unmodified COTS device, is represented as part of the GSTA to

simplify the overall SDD system description. Logical control of

System Testing Approach

• Overall approach documented and guided by System Test Plan

• Augment network size and loading with simulators

• Measure throughput, latency, timing accuracy, jitter, network link utilization, and data loss
