SynopsisWhat if the Nazis invaded Britain?1944: after five years of war a Nazi invasion lands on British soil. Within a month, half the country is occupied. One morning the women of an isolated valley wake to find their husbands gone. Assuming the men have joined the Resistance, they wait, desperate for news. THE MAGIC OF HOPE
EFP NY Industry Screenings Monday, June 25 / 8:00 PM
Associated with ICAA Spain
SynopsisBianca is raising her 10-year-old daughter on her own, and there‘s nothing that she wouldn‘t do for her. Together they sing, laugh and dream, and face life with an endless appetite. When Aran is diagnosed with Leukemia, her mother knows that she‘ll have to gather all possible energy and love to support her daughter in this terrible fight. A fight that will bring the two of them closer than ever, and will allow them to discover the love and magic surrounding them.
Director’s StatementI wanted to show the pain of a mother for the possible loss of her daughter, a woman who has lost the ability to think, dream and see things closer. But I wanted to avoid falling into heavy sentimentality. Blanca becomes more fragile and discovers how to help her kid, learn-ing from the small details of people suffering in the street, figuring that things are what you want to be and turning adversity into hope.

BLANCANIEVES
Associated with ICAA Spain
SynopsisBLANCANIEVES is a Burtonesque adaptation of the Snowhite tale writ-ten by the Brothers´ Grimm.
Once upon a time there was a little girl who had never met her mother, and she grew up being hated by her evil stepmother. She learned her father’s art, a famous bullfighter, and one day she ran away to become a legend.
Set in 1920s south of Spain, BLANCANIEVES is a tribute to silent films.
Director’s StatementBLANCANIEVES IS A LOVE STORY.The film is a reflection about love, from father and daughter to first love, as experienced by its protagonists - love as a school of pain and as de-mystifying filter to face the ups and downs of life.
BLANCANIEVES IS ABOUT EMOTIONS.A sincere glance can contain all the tension of the boldest action. The drama comes from the situations and from the sheer desire of our prot-agonist to carry on against adversity.

THE WOMAN WHO BRUSHED OFF HER TEARS
EFP NY Industry Screenings Tuesday, June 26 / 6:00 PM
Associated with Macedonian Film Fund
SynopsisIn Paris, Helena witnesses her son’s suicide. Noah confesses the horri-ble truth of his father’s abuse, but Helena refuses to believe him. Her son falls over the balcony railing into the night. From this moment on, Helena’s world is turned upside down as her struggle for survival trans-forms into a hunt for revenge.
Ajsun is a dreamer who lives with her father and her son Ilkin. In the high mountains of Macedonia, their existence is simple and harsh. Life has a different pace and purpose there, the daily survival is what drives them all. Ajsun dreams to be reunited with Lucien, the father of her son.
These two women from different parts of the world will end up affect-ing each other’s lives in the most unexpected ways.
Director’s StatementTHE WOMAN WHO BRUSHED OFF HER TEARS tells a story about the var-ious imprisonment we create for ourselves or are forced into. Helena’s path is precisely traced, a path she is unable to change. Ajsun wants to live. Both aspire to be free.
This is a story of two destinies coming into one, of two women coming into one, and of two worlds becoming one.

SynopsisEuropean on the heads side, Asian on the tails side.
Cartoonist, 42 years old according to his civil status, Jung prefers to place his birth at the age of 5, when a policeman found him wandering alone on the streets of Seoul. He is one of those 200 000 adopted Kore-ans spread around the world.
Jung decided to return, for the first time, to South Korea, in order to breathe the air of his home country, tread the land of his ancestors, and maybe find traces of his biological mother. This trip of reconciliation with his roots and with himself – shot as a documentary — leads our character to recall – in animation – the child he once was and the wind-ing path that made him grow up, until the encounter with his wife, an adopted Korean herself.
This travel in time – the present of the trip and the memory of the past – will push him little by little towards a peaceful cohabitation between his inner diversities.
Director’s StatementWorking on my graphic novel Couleur de peau: Miel, I read a lot. I even tried to understand why so many children were abandoned from Korea. As a kid, I didn’t understand this. It’s one of the reasons why I blamed my birth country. It’s cultural. Separation is part of Korean’s history. North and South Korea of course but before, there was the Japanese oc-cupation for three decades. Korean people went through a lot. Families still live in pain from the separation.
The best way to embrace my story and introduce it to the reader was using irony. From this came the dialog with the kid I once was. This gap was very important to me as it didn’t prevent emotion to get in there. Comics allow this mix of genres.
