PACS solutions for orthopaedic practicesViztek’s Opal-Ortho Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) (A) solution for orthopaedic practices is a single ap-pliance that integrates digital radi-ography or computed radiography with PACS for optimal effi ciency. The Opal-Ortho suite occupies a very small footprint, yet it is ca-pable of housing 100,000 imaging studies. According to the manufac-turer, enhanced digital templating provides immediate calculations to help surgeons create more precise surgical plans, while the web-based platform enables the display of im-ages on mobile devices such as iPad® tablets or Android devices.

Conservative treatment for OA knee painThe DonJoy OA Nano™ knee brace from DJO Global (B)is a conserva-tive treatment for mild-to-moder-ate osteoarthritis (OA) knee pain. Manufactured using nanoMAG™

TTMP, a new type of metal that is reportedly as light as magnesium with the strength of aircraft-grade aluminum, the 14.2-ounce OA Nano decreases pressure on the knee by offl oading stress. In ad-dition to its light weight, the knee brace also features fl exibility and a low profi le, all designed to opti-mize patient comfort, compliance, and effi cacy.

Spinal system for small stature patientsK2M, Inc.’s MESA® Small Stature Spinal System (C) is a 4.5 mm ped-icle screw system for treating small stature patients. The top-loading system features Zero-Torque Tech-nology®, which applies zero tor-sional loads, or twisting forces, to the spine when locking the screw. It also features enhanced dual-lead thread and light ergonomic instru-mentation.

Lordotic cervical cage Featuring VerteBRIDGE® plating technology, the ROI-C Lordotic Cervical Cage from LDR offers a zero profi le, stand-alone construct for fusion in the cervical spine. The cage’s design reportedly enables

surgeons to treat patients with more varied anatomy, and reduces the need for thick cervical plates that may contribute to dysphagia. The self-guided, curved plating is delivered in the plane of the disk through a direct anterior approach, enabling implantation with less ex-posure than may be required to im-plant a traditional cervical plate or contemporary stand-alone systems, according to the manufacturer.

Porous metal interbody implant for lumbar spine According to Zimmer, its recently introduced TM Ardis™ Interbody System is the fi rst application of a porous metal implant with an interbody indication for the lum-bar spine in the United States. The system is indicated for use with autogenous bone graft as an intervertebral body fusion device at one or two contiguous levels in the lumbosacral region (L2-S1) in the treatment of degenerative disk disease with up to Grade 1 spon-dylolisthesis or retrolisthesis at the involved level(s). The TM ArdisInterbody System is implanted using a posterior or transforaminal approach and is intended to be used singly or in pairs with supple-mental fi xation. Patients should be skeletally mature and have had 6 months of nonsurgical treatment.

The TM Ardis Implant features

an updated, anatomical shape that allows the implant to be inserted into the disk space more easily, while its large porous surface area is designed to support boney in-growth and more even load distri-bution. The TM Ardis Interbody System is available in 40 sizes, with implants available in three lengths, two widths, and eight heights.

3D intraoperative implant veri cation Mazor Robotics’ Renaissance™

surgical guidance system for spine procedures now incorporates the C-OnSite application. C-OnSite uses images from two-dimensional C-arms to enable low-radiation, intraoperative three-dimensional (3D) verifi cation of implant place-ment. After the surgeon positions the screw(s), a 15-second C-arm scan is performed. These images are then fused with images from the preoperative computed tomography scan, producing an intraoperative

3D axial view of the spine that shows the exact location of each pedicle screw and its relationship to the spinal canal, enabling immedi-ate repositioning if necessary.

Smith & Nephew introduces new plating systems The VLP FOOT Percutaneous Calcaneus Plating System (D) is specifi cally designed for treating calcaneus fractures using a per-cutaneous approach. The system features a streamlined profi le and tapered-edge plates that assist with plate insertion and fracture reduc-tion. It is also the only plating sys-tem to offer variable-angle locking technology and feature four differ-ent screw options to address differ-ences in bone quality, according to the manufacturer.

The PERI-LOC Ankle Fusion System is a complete ankle fusion plating system with four anatomic plate designs that enable surgeons to perform both tibiotalar and tibiotalocalcaneal fusions through multiple approaches, including anterior, lateral, or posterior. The PERI-LOC System also offers outstanding stability because the screws thread into the plate, creat-ing a true fi xed-angle locked con-struct, states Smith & Nephew.

Rotator cu , labral repair systemUtilizing Quattro™ Link Knotless Anchor technology, the Quattro Shoulder System from Cayenne Medical enables surgeon-controlled tensioning of each suture strand and features a unique cleat de-sign to maintain proper tension throughout anchor deployment. The system also features the Quat-tro™ X Suture Anchor, preloaded with two strands of #2 Force Fiber™ high-strength suture and developed with a tapered thread design for optimal bone purchase.
