Abstract

Growing demand for the availability of reliable and quality power has made the

job of substations more important. This can be achieved by establishing the new

substations, with most efficient and reliable equipments and taking at most care in their

operation and maintenance. These aspects make the Power & Energy System Engineers

to know more about the establishment, operation and maintenance of substations. In this

view training was undertaken at KPTCL, Bagalkot zone, Bagalkot.

During training an effort was made to know about 1) Factors considered for

establishing new substations 2) Importance of substation earthing 3) Study of

operations and maintenance of major substation equipments and 4) Responsibilities of

Electrical Engineer’s in establishing operation and maintenance of substations. Industrial

Training was obtained at the following substations of KPTCL.

1. 110/11 KV Sub-Station Shiraguppi Tq: Bilagi

2. 110/11 KV Sub-Station, Sadapur Tq: Mudhol

3. 110/11 KV Sub-Station, Neerabudhihal, Tq: Badami

4. 220/110/33/11 KV Sub-Station, Bagakot

5. 110/11 KV Sub-Station, Bagalkot

6. 220/110/11 KV Sub-Station, Bijapur (Near Shivagiri)

Establishing the Substations near load centers, installing the standard and efficient

equipment and by the well planned maintenances schedule, make the utilities to minimize

losses reduce the cost of operation and maintenance and enable them to supply quality

and reliable power to the consumers.
