SPIE is a leading player in the UK industrial sector, specialising in electrical and instrumentation engineering. In addition, we also provide a wider scope of engineering activities including mechanical, piping, civil, construction and maintenance services.
With SPIE’s significant financial and technical backing, we provide a full suite of multi-technical and support services in a variety of design engineering fields such as electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and process. SPIE also provides vetted and qualified staff to conduct and manage on-site installation, testing and commissioning.
These activities are also supported with the provision of long term site maintenance and facilities management to the industrial end user markets. We have gained a portfolio of projects and have significant experience working in demanding environments with new technologies that support the race to find alternative sustainable sources of power.
SPIE believes its design innovations, commitment to health and safety and the environment, and dedication to quality and excellence gives considerable value
and advantages to the customer. SPIE has gained ISO accreditations, 9001, 14001 and has OHSAS 18001 at the heart of our day-to-day activities.
It is our policy to provide the best possible practice and procedures to ensure that
our staff operate in a safe and healthy environment in line with current
behavioral safety initiatives.
We enjoy an exceptionally high level of repeat business which makes us very proud, as it illustrates how well our project teams integrate with our customers. Our employees work seamlessly
with our clients driving a culture of added value and mutual respect;
we have a flexible, can-do approach to engineering with safety as a top priority.

We provide customers with tailored solutions that integrate our full range of capabilities, extending from engineering assistance installation and maintenance optimisation.
Our core competences are:• Instrumentation and electrical services
• Term maintenance
• Shutdown support
• Primary and secondary CE&I design services
• HVAC engineering
• Installation and refurbishment of overhead transmission and distribution lines
Gas Fired Power StationsIn the UK, SPIE is a leading E&I contracting company in Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects having completed three major schemes with Alstom. We also have the widest experience of new build plants in England and Wales providing complete project delivery.
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)In order that the UK can meet its emissions targets, a series of SCR projects have been commissioned within the existing coal fired power stations to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide that is omitted into the atmosphere. SPIE has provided the engineering expertise to complete the electrical and instrumentation at Ratcliffe Power Station for EON.
NuclearInvolved at every stage of the fuel cycle, from production to waste storage, SPIE provides nuclear power plant operators with advanced electromechanical and HVAC engineering solutions.
BiofuelsWe have cutting-edge expertise in industrial scale electrical and instrumentation systems for biofuel production facilities.
High Voltage GIS Switching HallsAlongside the power distribution networks, SPIE helps to deliver high-integrity M&E solutions for the Electricity Alliance framework and has just competed for the National Grid the largest GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) Hall in the UK.
Anaerobic DigestionWithin our engineering portfolio SPIE has provided the innovation and engineering expertise to build the largest anaerobic digestion plant in Europe at Verdun for Ineos.
Gas Extraction and StorageSPIE have the enviable position of being involved in gas supply from both upstream and downstream. We also provide electrical support and planned maintenance to Centrica on the Gas Storage platform 47/3B in the Rough Field of the North Sea, and are involved in the Breagh Field gas pipeline at Teesside and the innovative Storengy, Stublach Gas Storage salt cavern facility.
Wind PowerAmongst the top 5 European providers of wind turbine installation services, SPIE has extensive experience in site selection, negotiations and other aspects of project management.
Distribution and TransmissionAs one of the leading companies in this highly specialised field of overhead distribution and transmission lines, SPIE builds and refurbishes HV overhead transmission and electrical lines up to a voltage of 275Kv for the owners of distribution and transmission networks including Electricity North West, Northern Ireland Electricity, Scottish Power, UK Power Networks and Western Power Distribution.
