INDUSTRIAL PAINTER PURPOSE: To perform skilled industrial painting of equipment and vehicles. FUNCTIONAL AREAS: 1. Perform skilled painting and rust prevention of equipment and vehicles, including meters, regulators, water tanks, pumps, motors, pipes, valves, graders, trucks, etc. * A. Estimate time, materials, equipment and cost requirements of the job. * B. Prepare surfaces for painting or repainting by pressure washing, sandblasting, grinding and/or sanding to remove dirt and loose paint. * C. Fabricate and replace metal and fiberglass parts for vehicles. * D. Prepare work surfaces for painting by applying filler to holes/cracks and placing masking tape over surfaces that are not to be painted. * E. Select premixed paints and prepare paint that matches specified colors. * F. Perform work to erect and dismantle scaffolding, and work from scaffolds and cranes when necessary. * G. Apply prime and finish paints and rust preventative materials to a variety of surfaces * H. Cut and apply stencils. * I. Operate tools and equipment used in industrial painting, including sand blasters, airless painters, electrostatic sprayers, sanders, grinders, welders. * J. Operate equipment including trucks, graders, loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, JLG’s and overhead cranes. 2. Perform related tasks. * A. Order supplies, tools, and equipment necessary to perform the job. * B. Maintain tools and equipment. * C. Maintain records and prepare associated reports. * D. Perform painting of interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other structures. E. Perform related tasks as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS Experience Requirements: A. Successful completion of an accredited auto body repair and refinishing program plus one (1) year of related verifiable experience; OR three (3) years of verifiable experience as an auto body repair & refinishing technician, or as an industrial painter with experience repairing and refinishing motor vehicles.

PURPOSE: To perform skilled industrial painting of equipment and vehicles.

FUNCTIONAL AREAS:

1. Perform skilled painting and rust prevention of equipment and vehicles, including meters,

* A. Estimate time, materials, equipment and cost requirements of the job.

Certification and License Requirements:

† A. Ability to pass a medical evaluation for certification in the use of a supplied air

system respirator.

† B. Possession of a valid Minnesota Class B Commercial driver’s license or privilege

with airbrake endorsement by the date of appointment and thereafter.

Knowledge Requirements:

† A. Extensive knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the

industrial painting trade.

† B. Knowledge of applicable OSHA AND MPCA standards.

C. Knowledge of applicable MNOPS standards.

† D. Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal methods.

E. Basic knowledge of welding in order to weld light sheet metal using M.I.G. welder.

† F. Knowledge of applicable safety standards and fire prevention methods.

† G. Knowledge of the methods and practices of cleaning and maintaining painting

equipment and supplies.

Skill Requirements:

† A. Skill in planning work, including estimating time, materials, equipment and cost

requirements.

† B. Skill in the proper use of equipment and materials used in the painting industry.

† C. Skill in the application of anti-corrosive treatments to iron and metals.

† D. Skill in the operation of heavy equipment such as dump trucks, motor graders,

front end loaders, plow trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts, JLG’s and overhead cranes.

Ability Requirements:

† A. Ability to match colors and shades of paint.

† B. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, product guides, and material

safety data sheets.

† C. Ability to read and understand policy and procedure manuals.

† D. Ability to understand and apply MNOPS, OSHA, and MPCA rules and regulations

applicable to painting.

† E. Ability maintain accurate records and prepare reports.

† F. Ability to use good judgment and to work independently.

† G. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors,

co-workers, and the general public.

† H. Ability to erect, dismantle and work from scaffolds in accordance with safety

standards.

† I. Ability to climb, balance, and work at heights.

† J. Ability to work in confined spaces.

† K. Ability to work for extended periods while wearing a respirator.

† L. Ability to work in environments with exposure to toxic materials, dust, and fumes.

† M. Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and reach; and to occasionally recline,

push and pull while carrying out painting tasks.

† N. Ability to frequently lift and carry painting equipment and supplies weighing up to

50 pounds, and to occasionally lift with assistance items weighing up to 100

pounds.

† O. Ability to attend work on a regular basis.

Other Requirements:

† A. Subject to periodic random drug testing as required by the Federal D.O.T. and

Pipeline Safety Regulations Part 199.
