What is the ?
The KEY Alliance is a partnership of seven (7) independent Christian schools in the Nepean, Blue Mountains & Hawkesbury regions to provide access to VET courses for their Year 11 & 12 students as part of their HSC.

• Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are responsible for the industry qualificationsdelivered at KEY Alliance Schools

Also, VET courses are accredited by the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) as 2 Unit HSC (Higher School Certificate) subjects.
VET courses:• are based on national training packages that meet industry adult-
level training needs
• lead towards the achievement of a qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) that is industry recognised nationwide
• are written, delivered and assessed in competency-based terms
• provide opportunities for practical, work focused and based learning of the knowledge and skills you need for work in a particular industry, and also for further study
• Optional VET HSC examinations [developed by NESA] can contribute towards an ATAR for admission to university the year after Year 12

Qualifications
Students completing VET courses may receive:
• an AQF Statement of Attainment, or Transcript, of any and all Competencies successfully completed and achieved
• an AQF Certificate I, II or III, depending on the course and the industry required Units of Competency*
• * The AQF Certificate is awarded if all the required Core and Elective Units of Competency have been successfully achieved

NOTE ABOUT “QUALIFICATIONS” FOR VET COURSES:
Usually, VET courses approved by NESA as part of the HSC are configured for HSC requirements in such a way that it is not possible for students to successfully complete all the industry required Competencies for the award of a VET course’s full certificate II or III.
Thus HSC students, usually, only receive an industry Statement of Attainment for those Competencies that they successfully complete.
Should a student, after finishing school, enrolin TAFE or with another RTO to complete the certificate, they will receive credit for their achieved Competencies towards the award of the full Certificate II or III.

Training Schedule(of TAS)
ACTION: Distribute Training Schedule to students
• Reading through the Training Schedule - your trainer will discuss the following:
✓ Certificate level at which course is being delivered is either a:✓ Statement of Attainment✓ Certificate I✓ Certificate II or ✓ Certificate III
✓ Duration of the course – usually 2 years✓ Units of Competency (UOC or referred to simply as ‘Competencies’) to
be delivered ✓ Type of assessment for competence✓ Assessment Plan✓ Work Placement requirement (NESA mandated as HSC requirement)

All schools support student learning by providing:

Student Profile Form
To gain a better understanding of all students undertaking a VET course, students may be required to complete a profile form.
The form will provide details of • previous VET studies and current employment details
(if applicable, could relate with RPL or Credit Transfer)
• why you are interested in doing this course• support needs (if applicable)• language and cultural diversity
• NOTE: Student profile information is collected, usually, via the KEY Alliance APPLICATION FORM.

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
If you have:✓ Previous work experience✓ Completed a course with an
RTO and have a transcript stating the units which are the same as you will be studying
You need to:✓ Provide evidence eg
certificates work record✓ Apply to your trainer who will
assess your skills to ensure they meet industry standards
Paid work in an industry can contribute to meeting your work placement requirement. Discuss this with your trainer.

Complaints and Appeals
From time to time, concerns may arise about aspects of your course. You may wish to appeal an assessment decision or make a complaint.
Complaints and Appeals Process1. Speak to your trainer and try to sort out the
problem
2. If the problem is not resolved, speak to your Home School VET Coordinator and/or the KEY Alliance Coordinator, or the Home School Principal.
3. If the problem is still not resolved present the evidence to the RTO for review. A decision is then communicated to the student.
4. If you are still unsatisfied the complaint may proceed to the Office of Fair Trading

Course Costs
For some courses, fees are charged to cover additional course costs such as uniforms, safety clothing, tool kits and consumable materials used in your training.
Example estimates of the fees/costs and course levy are included in the KEY Alliance HANDBOOK.
If you withdraw from a course, a refund may be possible*, unless resources and equipment have already been purchased on your behalf.
*if provided by a Home and/or Delivery School’s Fees & Refunds Policy

Additional fees are charged for external third-party RTO training for the following required competencies:
• Construction WHS General Induction (White Card) -- for Construction, Entertainment & Electrotechnology students.
• First Aid & CPR -- for Early Childhood Education and Care & Electrotechnology students.

How to create a USI- if you haven’t already
✓ Read USI Privacy Notice that tells you how the USI register collects, uses, stores and discloses your personal information and the way in which you can access and correct your personal information. ➢https://www.usi.gov.au/documents/privacy-policy
✓ Find an appropriate form of identification. Either a passport, drivers license, medicare card or birth certificate.
✓ Go to https://www.usi.gov.au/ and create a USI✓ Once you have created your USI you will receive a confirmation email
or SMS✓ Send your USI to the KEY Alliance Coordinator and to your Trainer
• NOTE: Creating and providing your USI is done, usually, as part of completing the KEY Alliance APPLICATION FORM.

Privacy Notice
▪ RTOs are required to collect personal information about you and to disclose that personal information to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER).
▪ Your personal information may be used or disclosed by the RTO for statistical, regulatory and research purposes.
▪ Due to changes in the National VET Data Policy, students are only required to read the Privacy Notice.
▪ NOTE: The Privacy Notice is included in the KEY Alliance APPLICATION FORM, and also in the KEY Alliance HANDBOOK.

An RTO may disclose your personal information to third parties, including:
• School – if you are a secondary student undertaking VET, including a school based apprenticeship or traineeship (SBATs)
• Employer – if you are enrolled in training paid by your employer
• Commonwealth and State or Territory government departments and authorised agencies
• NCVER• Organisations conducting student surveys• Researchers

▪ understanding how the VET market operates, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information
▪ issuing a VET Statement of Attainment or VET Qualification, and populating Authenticated VET Transcripts
▪ facilitating statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkages
▪ administering VET, including program administration, regulation, monitoring and evaluation

Pre-Course Test – LLN Robot
• VET course adult training requires cores skills in language, literacy & numeracy (LLN) at ACSF* Level 3
(*ACSF = Australian Core Skills Framework)
• Pre-Course Test uses ‘LLN Robot’ online quiz
• Test helps to determine if ‘reasonable adjustments’ are needed for any student (eg, at ACSF level 2) which are likely to enable the student to meet the industry standard for the outcomes of the course without help
ACTION: Do LLN Robot Quiz (if not done)

Work Placement
• NESA mandates Work Placement (WP) for all Industry Curriculum Framework (ICF*) VET courses.§ *ICF courses: Automotive (AUT), Construction (CON),
Electrotechnology (ELT), Entertainment (ENT), Hospitality (HOS), Information Technology (IT/IDT), Retail (RET)
§ WP hours: minimum 70 hours over two years BUT done in two 35 hour WPs – the first for Year 11 Preliminary in Term 2 Week 6 and the second for Year 12 HSC in Term 4 Week 6 of the Year 11 year.
• Work Placement Service Provider (WPSP) organises host employers for VET ICF WPs.
ACTION: ICF students register for WP at WorkplacementConnect website – <wpc.schoolsindustry.com.au>

• NESA mandates WP for some Board Endorsed VET courses (BECs).
§ BEC courses are: Early Childhood Education & Care (ECH); Design Fundamentals (DES)
§ NESA mandates 35 hour WP for Early Childhood Education & Care (ECH)
§ Usually, the ECH 35 hour WP occurs in the Year 11 year in Term 4 Week 6
• Organisation for the ECH WP is managed in-house by PCS.

Communication
• Communication between Trainers/VET Coordinators and students -- via Google Classroom, or an alternative, AND/OR email.
• Communication of such things as:Ø Dissemination of course, test, and other relevant materials
Ø Trainer and/or VET Coordinator messages to students
Ø Student’s messages to the Trainer and/or VET Coordinator
ACTION: Students join course’s Google Classroom using the code provided OR connect to alternative as directed

Attendance at Course/Class
• NESA requires that you ”apply yourself with diligence and sustained effort” –therefore, you must attend, at least, 85% of the VET course/class timetabled time.
• Full week’s worth of ‘class periods’ in a single afternoon – Thursdays 1:30-5:30pm
• Continuously “observed” practical ‘hands-on’ assessment.

• ABSENCES: Note well -
ü Normal school rules for absences apply –eg, parent notes with valid acceptable reasons for full or partial absence
ü Medical Appointments should be avoided during VET course timetabled time.
ü Part-time Work is NOT a valid acceptable reason for absence from school at any time, including during VET time.
ü N-Award Warning Letters for unknown/unexplained absences (full or partial).
VET Uniform
• All VET students are outfitted with a KEY Alliance VET uniform (except for shoes/boots)
• Uniform is:
ü Black cargo pants (usually has side pockets)
ü Black polo shirt for ECH, ENT, IT/IDT – with a KEY Alliance logo
ü Hi-vis Black/Orange polo shirt for AUT, CON, ELT –with a KEY Alliance logo
ü Black fleece jacket – with a KEY Alliance logo
ü Black (all black) shoes/runners – ECH, ENT, HOS, IT/IDT
ü Steel-capped shoes/boots – AUT, CON, ELT
