OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design (Photography)Cambridge Technicals are targets for students aged 16+ either in school or other alternative FE environments. They will allow you to have greater flexibility with the units ensuring that you have the opportunity to work to your strengths. The course is 100% internally assessed and is supported by UCAS points enabling you to progress through to university.

It is a vocational qualification which has clear, sensible and practical approach to assessment. Throughout the year you will complete three units, one if which is mandatory, with clear learning outcomes and marked as a Pass, Merit of Distinction. You will have the opportunity to work in both chemical and digital photography and although the contextual study if delivered and documented differently, it is still a vital part of the course.

There will be an opportunity to go on an international visit, as well as other more local visits.

On return from the summer holiday, you will be issued with a sketchbook on receipt of the course fee of £20. This will cover costs of the course, chemicals, paper and any other materials that you might require throughout the duration of the year.

TASK ONEYou must investigate other ways that you can analyse images allowing the reader to understand what you are trying to say, but with fewer words. How you present it is up to you although it must be ready to go into your A4 sketchbook on return in September. Throughout the taster session we will explore ways that we will do this and together we will work as a group to complete one image. What we produce during the taster session will be emailed to you as a point of reference. (If you are receiving this after the induction period there will be examples to show what we have completed so far)

Enclosed is a selection of images to choose from. You should choose one to work with throughout the Summer Holiday. Your task is to explore the photograph and the events that surround it. This should be done visually, buy collecting images, news articles and quotes. You should then try to recreate the image to the best of your ability. On return, I expect to see images documenting your findings. Supporting this I would like to see a contact print of images and a final transcription of the original image. (You images could be edited although this is not essential)
