    1950: A new constitution was introduced constitution that mandated aparliamentary system with a largely ceremonial presidentunicameralparliament with 232 members (DPRor People's Representative Council).

    The highest state institution is the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).

    Voter received three different ballots: DPR, first

    The main and significant differences :

    No restrictions forming political partiesGovernment is not allowed to interfere into the partys internalaffairs.

    New commission : General Election Commission (KPU)responsible for running both parliamentary and presidential elections

    in Indonesia. Registered: > 200 parties Qualified: 48 Parties.

    MPR directly elected = 700 member

    (462 DPR + 38 Military + 135 representatives from regionallegislatures + 65 appointed members from various social groups)

    The six largest parties : PDIP, Golkar Party, PPP, PKB, PAN, andPBB

    Winner: PDI Party

    New President : Abdurrahman Wahid from PKB from PKB Party

    Vice President: Megawati Sukarno Putri from PDI Party 7

    Electoral system : was open-list Proportional system

    Vote : Candidates of member of parliament in national,provincial, and district/municipal levels, candidate of member of

    regional representatives

    Seats will be distributed using quota and largest-remainder

    systems.

    Winner: Golkar Party won the largest share of the vote, 21.6%

    17 parties won legislative seats.

    The 1st presidential direct election system. Winner : 50% of the votes and 20% of the votes in at least half

    of the provinces in the first round election.

    New President : Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from PD Party

    New Vice President: Jusuf Kalla from Golkar Party. 8

    Voters: 174.410 million from 76.749 villages in 33provinces

    Political parties : 38 political parties.

    Electoral system : open list and the most votes system

    Legislative election law : Only party leaders choose

    supporters for seats at national and regional level

    Seats: 128 seats for upper house (DPD) and 550seats

    for lower house (DPR). Parties : > 2.5 % popular vote seated in the People's

    Representative Council.

    No one is allowed to contest as an independent
