• Light indications that are presented using indicator lamps and symbols (2).• Display messages that are presented using symbols and texts in the display (1).• Acoustic indications.

Note:All functions for indications in the instrument cluster, ICL, are only available on ve-hicles fitted with BCI functionality (Bodywork Communication Interface). The func-tions are available in BICT (Bodywork Interface Configuration Tool) and controlled by the BCI control unit.

On vehicles without BCI functionality, it is only possible to use 2 optional indicator lamps with or without acoustic indications.

Function behaviourIf the vehicle is equipped with BCI functionality, the functions for acoustic/light in-dications and display messages are selected using BICT. In this case, no parameter settings are made in SDP3 for bodybuilders.

For vehicles without BCI functionality, the parameters for acoustic and light indica-tions are selected directly in the ICL control unit by using SDP3 for bodybuilders (Scania Diagnos & Programmer 3).

Information on adjustable parameters is found in the document Parameters – Driv-er’s information.

SeverityIndications are divided into severity levels as follows:

IMPORTANT!

Use the appropriate severity for an indication:• The appropriate severity reduces the risk of underestimation and increases the

chance of correct action being taken.• The classification according to severity follows the same principle as the indica-

tions that the vehicle was fitted with at the factory.

Information on the indications the vehicle is fitted with from the factory is found in the vehicle’s Driver’s Manual.

Light indicationAt most, there are 8 indicator lamps which can indicate status for the vehicle’s dif-ferent bodywork functions. The number of available indicator lamps varies depend-ing on how the vehicle was configured at the factory. In front of each indicator lamp is a symbol showing the function the lamp indicates status for.

The table shows the severity that the various indicator lamps can indicate:

There are 4 colours that represent the severity of the indication:

Empty symbol lens to create a customised set of symbols.

Symbol lensesIn front of the indicator lamps there is a removable symbol lens with a symbol for each bodywork function. Scania offers symbol lenses with different set of symbols. Depending on the vehicle's specification, it may be fitted with different symbol lens-es at the factory.

It is also possible to create a custom symbol lens. Start with an empty lens and fit loose symbol stickers.

Symbol lenses and symbol sheets with symbol stickers can be purchased from Scania dealers.

More information about symbol lenses can be found under the following headings:

• Ordering information.• Part information.• Renew the symbol lens.

Display messagesThe vehicle must be fitted with BCI functionality to be able to display the bodywork information as display messages.

Information on navigating in the display is found in the vehicle’s Driver’s Manual.

It is possible to show 2 types of text and image messages in the display:

• Fixed indications showing the status of a function in the vehicle, e.g. activated/deactivated.

• Variable information that can be displayed on request, e.g. the value for pressure, temperature or any other value that varies.

More information about activating variable information can be found in the docu-ment Variable information in the instrument cluster, ICL.

There are 3 colours which represent the severity of the fixed indication:

Prioritisation of display message, light indication and acoustic indicationIndications have different priorities depending on the severity.

If several display messages are activated at the same time, the one with the highest priority is displayed. Display messages with lower priority will then only be shown as a smaller symbol at the top of the display.

Light indications for different indicator lamps do not replace each other. If several light indications are activated at the same time for the same indicator lamp, the one with the highest priority is displayed.

The acoustic indication with the highest priority sounds.

IMPORTANT!

Messages with low priority but that the driver needs to see should be presented as a light indication instead of, or together with, a display message.

ActivationThe functions for bodywork information in the instrument cluster is controlled most-ly by the BCI control unit. But it is possible to activate 2 optional indicator lamps with or without acoustic indications on vehicles without BCI functionality. More in-formation on connection without BCI functionality is found under the heading Con-nection.

One or more activation signals can be used to activate indications in the instrument cluster, ICL. Activation signals can be initiated via CAN or by creating a logic dia-gram in BICT. When using CAN, the activation signal is a CAN message. When us-ing a logic diagram in BICT, the activation signal is either +24 V, earth or another signal from the vehicle’s internal CAN network.

Activation signals are divided into two categories:

• Signals that come from a function available on the vehicle from the factory.

Activation

Indications in the instrument cluster, ICL

Signals from a factory-fitted functionMany functions which are fitted at the factory transmit a signal to indicate an active or inactive state. This signal can be used as an activation signal by creating a logic diagram in BICT or by using a CAN message. The activation signal may come from e.g. a factory-fitted power take-off or the vehicle’s parking brake.

Signals from a retrofitted functionTo use a signal from a retrofitted function as an activation signal, it must be connect-ed to harness-to-harness connector C259 in the bodywork console. From connector C259, the signal travels onwards to the BCI control unit. An example of a retrofitted function is a sensor on the bodywork.

Activation with logic diagram in BICT1. Create a logic diagram in BICT that defines which signals trigger activation:

– Select finished vehicle functions in BICT for signals from functions that are fitted at the factory, e.g. a factory-fitted power take-off or parking brake.

– Select that the signal is coming from harness-to-harness connector C259 when the signal is coming from a retrofitted function.

2. Define activation conditions in BICT and using parameter settings in SDP3 for Bodybuilders.

3. Define behaviour using parameter settings in SDP3 for bodybuilders.4. Transfer the logic diagram with the parameter settings to the vehicle’s BCI con-

trol unit using SDP3 for Bodybuilders.

More information about BICT can be found in the document “BCI, Bodywork Com-munication Interface”.

Activation with +24 V or earth on vehicles without BCI functionalityOn vehicles without BCI functionality, it is possible to use 2 optional indicator lamps with or without acoustic indications.

Activate a light indication by specifying polarity, indicator lamp position and priority with SDP3 for bodybuilders.

Activate an acoustic indication using the parameter settings in SDP3 for bodybuild-ers.

Activation with CANFor the vehicle to be able to receive CAN signals via an external CAN network, this must be activated with a parameter setting in SDP3 for Bodybuilders.

A CAN message defines when and how the function is to be activated.

More information can be found in the following documents:

• General information on CAN.• CAN interface for bodywork.• External CAN Communication Specification.

Light and acoustic indicationsConnection upon activation without logic diagram in BICTConnection via connector C234 makes it possible to activate 2 indicator lamps with or without acoustic indications even if the vehicle is not equipped with BCI function-ality.

This example describes connection in the cab. The activation signal should be either +24 V or earth.

Proceed as follows:

1. Connect the activation cable to position 6 or 8 in harness-to-harness connector C234; see illustration.

2. Specify polarity, the indicator lamp position and type of light message in the ICL control unit using SDP3 for bodybuilders.

3. Specify the type of acoustic signal in the ICL control unit using SDP3 for body-builders.

The function is ready for activation.

Information on connections on the frame is found in the document Cable harness for bodywork functions.

More information on connections to harness-to-harness connector C234 can be found in the document Harness-to-harness connector C234 – tachograph signals.

Connection upon activation with logic diagram in BICTThis example describes a connection in the cab. The activation signal should be ei-ther +24 V or earth.

Proceed as follows:

1. Connect the activation cable to any position from 1–10 in harness-to-harness connector C234; see illustration.

2. Assign functions to the selected positions by creating a logic diagram in BICT. More information can be found in the section Activation.

3. Transfer the logic diagram from BICT to the vehicle’s BCI control unit using SDP3 for Bodybuilders.

The function is ready for activation.

Information on connections in C259 is found in the document Connector C259 – BCI-controlled functions.

Information on connections in the chassis frame can be found in the document “Ca-ble harnesses for bodywork functions”.
