Lawrence North Student-Athletes of the Week

Dheontae Unseld (Wrestling) and Trinity Brady (Basketball)

Junior wrestler Dheontae Unseld and sophomore basketball player Trinity Brady are the Lawrence North student-athletes of the

week. Unseld went 5-0 at the New Castle Invitational, including a win against a state-ranked opponent from Ft. Wayne Carroll who beat

Dheontae twice last year. Brady was on fire in two wins last week. Against Anderson, she put up 22 points and grabbed 9

rebounds. In the big win against #1 Columbus North, she had 18 points and 8 rebounds. Congrats, Dheontae and Trinity!

Boys Basketball: The Wildcats are ranked pre-season #4 in 4A. This week the

boys open up with two big games against the top two teams in 3A. The season opener is this Tuesday at 3A #1 Park Tudor starting at 6:00pm, then Friday night at 3A #2 Marion. Four MIC schools are ranked in the IBCA coaches poll: #3 North Central, #4 Lawrence North, #7 Carmel, and #10 Pike. Mark your calendars: Some highlights on the home schedule this year include the home opener against township rival Lawrence Central on Wednesday, December 7th, the Cathedral Irish on Wednesday, January 4th, Warren Central on Friday, January 6th, and #3 North Central on Friday, January 20th. On December 30th, the Wildcats will face # 11 Logansport in first game of the Hall of Fame Classic, with a second round game against either #6 Warsaw or #1 New Albany and Romeo Langford, the #2 ranked player in the nation for the class of 2018. Girls Basketball: Wow! The Cats are on Fire – Two #1 Teams Go Down on Consecutive Saturdays! The #5 4A Wildcats (5-1) beat Anderson at

home 74-38, and then went on the road to take on #1 Columbus North. The Wildcats played a great game, coming up with a 65-54 win over the Bulldogs! LN snapped Columbus North’s 28-game home win streak in the process. This is the 4th straight year that Lawrence North has defeated a #1 ranked team: Bedford North Lawrence in 2013, Columbus North in 2014, Heritage Christian in 2015, and Columbus North again in 2016. A special shout out to the JV Cats, as they also beat Columbus North on Saturday – the Bulldogs’ JV team had previously won 78 games in a row, and our Cats broke that streak! During the Thanksgiving break, the girls beat Tech at home on Tuesday night, 87 – 31. On Saturday, the team traveled to Cincinnati for the Queen City Classic and a match up with the #1 team in Ohio, Solon High School. All the Wildcats did was take down the second #1 team for the 2nd week in a row! The Cats beat Solon, 56-52. They have now taken down the #1 team in Indiana and the #1 team in Ohio on back-to-back Saturdays! The Wildcats, who will surely move up in the rankings when they come out later this week, will travel to #1 Carmel on Tuesday, November 29th for a big MIC showdown. Cheerleading: We’ve got spirit, yes we do! We’ve got spirit, how about

you? The cheer squad is always ready to cheer on another Wildcat victory!

Swimming & Diving: The girls team opened up the 2016-17 season with a 98-

88 win over Yorktown last week. Jazzy Kitt led the Wildcats with two individual wins, taking the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. Brooke Atkins won the 100 backstroke, Edin Hall won the 100 butterfly, and the 200 free relay of Sam White, Edin Hall, Claire Mouser, and Sally Persico also took home a blue ribbon. Also, a big congrats to Jazzy on committing to the University of Indianapolis! The boys team has been training hard, getting ready for the season to start. They have also been doing some team bonding with a little paintball action! Both teams will take on the Brebeuf Braves in their home opener on Tuesday, November 29th and then travel to Pike on Thursday for a tri-meet against the Red Devils and the Ben Davis Giants.

Wrestling: The Wildcat wrestlers started the season at the New Castle

Invitational last Saturday, going 3-2 on the day. The Wildcats beat Elkhart Memorial (42-26), Connersville (56-18), and Mt. Vernon (57-24). The team took losses to New Castle (33-42) and Ft. Wayne Carroll (15-49). Three wrestlers went 5-0 for the day; Dheontae Unseld at 132 lbs, Robert Samuels at 285 lbs, and Karsten Harshbarger at 106 lbs. Lawrence North then traveled to Warren Central on Tuesday night to take on the defending state champions. The Wildcats almost came up with the upset, coming up just short, 34-28. Good job, men! They will be traveling to the Bloomington Invitational on Saturday.

Ae’Rianna Harris (Purdue), Lamina Cooper (Purdue), Jordan Hankins (Northwestern), Basil Smotherman (Purdue), and Eron Harris (Michigan State) are all playing for Big Ten programs.
