The luxury guide for travellers, explorers, sun-seekers and island hoppers

Indian Ocean & Caribbean

Islands

The bluest of seas stretching as far as the eye can see, blending into cerulean skies far on the horizon; sun-kissed islands blessed with

enchanting palm-fringed beaches that invite indulgent relaxation, and a way of life that

moves delightfully slowly. Think of a tropical getaway and this is what springs to mind.

This is island life.

To celebrate the launch of our 2017/18 Indian Ocean and Caribbean brochures, Carrier have curated a

collection of quintessential island escapes to inspire your holiday planning. From remote Maldivian atolls

to private island exclusivity off the coast of Antigua, we work with the finest luxury hotels and resorts across the

Indian Ocean and Caribbean and our award-winning team of experts have visited them all.

We hope this book inspires you to get in touch and allow us to tailor-make your luxury island getaway.

For a dreamy romantic escape or a foodie retreat, this small paradise

island is unsurpassed.

You can walk hand in hand by the clear waters of the shallow lagoon, then savour delectable dishes at Cayenne Grill, Lime or The Lighthouse. Diving is one of the main attractions too as the hotel has its own house

reef, and there are 30 dive sites nearby. Elegant villa accommodation

is either overwater or by the beach; both have options with

private pools.

Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa

The Maldives is arguably one of the best places for just kicking back and doing nothing. Yet in reality, with so much on oer, the diculty here is deciding what to do.

The Maldives’ only UNESCO biosphere reserve is home to the world’s largest manta ray population; swimming with them is a highlight. June to November is the best time to experience this; there is even a Manta-on-Call alert for when the rays appear, before whisking you o on a speedboat. Equally impressive recreations include AntiGravity® yoga, dolphin cruises, X-Jetblading and Seabobs (underwater scooters).

Then, time to soothe your weary limbs. Named ‘Best Holistic Hideaway’ in the Condé Nast Traveller Spa Guide 2016, the spa is known for its innovative concepts. The Om Supti Night Spa Ritual is delivered in a private jungle clearing before probably the best sleep you’ve had in a long time… yes please.

Its sister property lies to the south and the resorts are linked by the exclusive Four Seasons Explorer catamaran – making it one of the best island twin-centres around.

This village-style island is the more intimate choice of the two. But it’s certainly no less impressive. All accommodation comes with your own private pool, including the new all-villa overwater option from December this year.

For a change of scenery, saunter over to the ethereal Serenity Pool; the oversea whirlpool is a must. Surfing is the order of the day here: visit one of the best surf schools in the Maldives (the conditions here are idyllic with consistent waters). Enjoy a Surfer massage at The Island Spa, surf the outer atolls on the Seaplane Surfari or rub shoulders with the pros at the annual Four Seasons Surfing Championships.

Dreaming with your eyes open: new addition, Four Seasons Private Island Voavah, opening at the end of this year, is for exclusive use and will have seven bedrooms, a luxury yacht and your own slice of UNESCO marine life.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

For those seeking gourmet excellence, Conrad Maldives will not let you down. Achieving no less than seven prestigious accolades at the inaugural World Luxury Restaurant Awards,

it was crowned the Indian Ocean’s leading foodie resort. A trailblazer in the culinary world, this dreamy retreat brought

a number of firsts to the archipelago: an undersea restaurant, an underground wine cellar, a cheese bar and world-class chefs –

this is the place to go for gastronomic delights.

Constance Moofushi

A refreshing take on an all-inclusive option. A young, party feel prevails at this splendid resort. After a day lolling on sunbeds

on one of the bigger beaches in the Maldives, the fun extends into the night at Manta Bar as resident DJ Sanjeewa delivers

tunes in a laid-back setting whilst you sip on a cocktail. That’s if you’re not too sleepy from exploring the awe-inspiring

reef or the 32 major dive sites nearby. Night dives are a particular favourite here.

Younger sister to sophisticated Huvafen Fushi, this is one of the most exciting resorts in the Maldives. Open-air dining pods high in the Banyan treetops, an underwater restaurant and bar, The Salon by Pedro Sanchez for unruly holiday tresses and a dedicated family-friendly island complete with a children’s pool, kids’ club and jungle safari. Need we say more?

PER AQUUM Huvafen Fushi

Continuing to push the boundaries...

Above the water, PER AQUUM Huvafen Fushi continues to wow, not least with their one-of-a-kind events. Throughout 2016, there was a stream of immersive

avant-garde experiences, from a chance to meet Justine Picardie (the literary wonder of ‘Coco Chanel: The Legend and the Life’ and current editor-in-chief of both Harper’s Bazaar

and Town & Country), to enjoying a performance by Xander Parish and the dancers of the Mariinsky Ballet in August. Daring to be dierent is PER AQUUM’s passion and

this is unlikely to come to a halt anytime soon.

This is an underwater discovery destination. To start, it has one of the best house reefs in the Maldives, where marine biologists can take you on guided snorkels.

Next up, the world’s first, and only, underwater spa (there’s a direct walkway from your room);

watch clown fish and stingrays go about their daily lives from the comfort of your

water-mattress-lined spa bed. And there’s more: a 6,000 bottle

underground wine cellar.

Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & SpaDays here should not just be spent loafing on the beach. Whilst undoubtedly surrounded by thousands of beautiful coconut palms, Villingili’s point of distinction goes further afield – to cultural immersions into unspoiled Maldivian villages, just a short boat ride away. What’s more, they moved their clocks forward one hour so you have extra time to explore in the sun.

Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa

An island icon reborn...

Following an extensive renovation and change in ownership last November, the resort is now emerging as a sensational style icon. The tropical-island-meets-

Mauritian-heritage design includes salvaged tree roots upholding glass tables in the lobby and a ‘Weaver’s Belvedere’ sculpture framing the sea view.

Service and staff remain peerless.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

Absolute musts

On the beautiful Anse Louis beach, this is one for solitude and privacy – a sort of ‘edge of the world’ retreat.

The secluded cove location is the real beauty of this resort, and there are only 30

villa residences, strategically positioned for the best views. Carefree living includes a submerged outdoor double bath, private

infinity pool and capacious day bed. Candle-lit dinners, couple’s massages, a

butler to deliver light meals and refreshments to your villa: it’s unashamedly romantic,

perfect for a well-earned honeymoon.

For the ultimate relaxationVisit the spa which raises its game with a 20 Dancing Fingers Massage – as the

name suggests, you’ll be pampered by two masseurs.

Ask your butler to organise a deep-sea fishing trip

Whether you manage to catch tuna or marlin, your butler can bring your catch

back and cook it for you while you sip an aperitif.

Maia Luxury Resort & Spa

Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita

Whilst large in size (64 acres of tropical gardens), this property emanates rustic seclusion. Thatched roofs,

neutral tones and natural woods combine with modernity; the design and the private pool make it

difficult to leave the seclusion of your villa… though you’ll be tempted away by the tremendous activities.

With treatments for teenagers, couples and even surfers (for those who have taken advantage of the resort’s

Tropicsurf tuition), it’s the hill-top cosseting spa that deserves a special mention here. It sits 80 metres above

sea-level with breathtaking views from each window.

Life’sBeacha

Sandy LaneIn need of little introduction, Sandy Lane is known as the best place to stay on Barbados. With no detail overlooked – GPS-installed buggies on the acclaimed golf courses, a grand pool with an underwater sound system and your own allocated spot on the beach – this is the Caribbean’s most famous hotel for good reason.

Flight newsVirgin Atlantic serves the Caribbean

with direct flights from London Gatwick to Barbados, St Lucia, Grenada, Antigua

and Jamaica. From 25 January 2017, they’ll launch their new swish home in the North Terminal (moving from

the South), including an impressive Clubhouse and V-room.

From the grand dame of Caribbean hotels to rustic-luxe private island resorts and newly-launched properties that push the boundaries of what can be considered luxury, the following pages feature the crème de la crème of our Caribbean, Bermuda & Mexico portfolio.

We also put a spotlight on the Atlantic gem that is Bermuda – possibly one of our favourite summer escapes. A great option for a twin-centre break: we recommend New York for an excellent blend of city and beach.

The InnSet in 19 coastal acres of Antigua’s National Park, this charming plantation hotel’s main draw is not only its location, but its gourmet fare.

Whilst perfect for an under-the-radar Caribbean retreat, it’s also close to all the action of Nelson’s Dockyard and English Harbour – a complimentary water taxi is on hand to take you there. After soaking up the carnival atmosphere at Shirley Heights and exploring the local markets, an evening dinner is best experienced at the hotel itself; home to one of the most exclusive alfresco restaurants on the island – The Terrace. Surrounded by lush vegetation and exuding a typically relaxed Antiguan feel, the restaurant serves an eclectic menu using ingredients from the organic garden and features favourites such as roasted red snapper barley risotto.

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort

A former sugar plantation in a supreme spot of natural beauty

– surrounded by rainforest, slap bang between the famous pitons

and with a beach that is, as the name suggests, icing sugar-soft.

There’s fine dining in the colonial splendour of The Great Room and the

accommodation is beautiful (tip: the spacious residences are a big hit).

In fact, Sugar Beach is hard to fault for families, honeymooners, nature lovers or adventure seekers; the latter lapping

up the PADI-certified dive centre, excellent snorkelling and schiller

bikes – yes, you can cycle on water.

Pink Sands ClubThe much-anticipated newcomer has arrived; Pink Sands

Club opened in July to high acclaim. A coalesce of outstanding natural beauty, signature restaurants, state-

of-the-art technology and an attention to detail that knows no bounds: this is a superlative hotel experience.

The adjacent Canouan Estate offers luxuriously-unique stand-alone villas and has access to the hotel’s services too.

COMO Parrot Cay

A hotspot for the A-listers, this private island estate sets the standard for rejuvenation and restoration. You’ll

feel an immediate sense of calm and peace as you arrive. This will linger as you take a castaway-style picnic on

the powder soft sands of the mile-long beach, relax in the decadent COMO Shambhala Retreat spa or

wind-down at a yoga class in the ocean-view pavilion.

Jumby Bay, A Rosewood

ResortHere, there’s a considered lack

of bling; instead, think laid-back, hammock-swinging barefoot luxury.

As well as upping the ante for all-inclusive, this exclusive resort boasts some of the

best accommodation in the region. From elegant villas to breathtaking seaside estates, Jumby Bay features an unrivalled

collection of one-of-a-kind properties dotted around the island.

Also, for extra peace of mind for those with children, there are no cars ( just bikes and

golf buggies) and no one can access the island other than by boat, from a private

dock on Antigua.

Jumby Bay hosts the longest-running hawksbill sea turtle research programme in the world and guests are invited to share in their active efforts – an eco-warrior’s dream.

BermudaBermuda is having a moment. Just seven hours from London, this little Atlantic island is so much more than a fly-and-flop escape.

Here the expansive crushed coral beaches with their famous pink-hued sand are as much a draw as the easy-going lifestyle. Combine this with exploring the impressive St George’s – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, cycling along the Old Railway Trail – a path that connects eight of the larger islands (Bermuda is made up of 181 islands and islets), a near perfect climate, and we can think of few better destinations for a summer sojourn.

Pictured here & above: Rosewood Tucker’s Point

All eyes will certainly be on the millionaires’ playground for the 2017 America’s Cup – considered to be the pinnacle of international sailing and presented by Louis Vuitton. With British hopes resting on the shoulders of Ben Ainslie and his Land Rover BAR team, the waters surrounding Bermuda could be the setting for Britain’s first win in the prestigious competition for 167 years.

Top tip Just a two hour flight off the

east coast of America, Bermuda offers the perfect opportunity to pair a US city break with island relaxation; combine modern city-life with vibrant colonial

heritage. New York and Boston are both brilliant twin centre options.

The island holds a promise of sun and sophistication; of art and culture in the cobbled streets and artisan boutiques of St. George’s; of world class golf courses and a foodie scene with few equals. With a miles-from-anywhere ambience quite unlike any place else, Bermuda is out on its own.

We feature four hotels in Bermuda and all of them deserve a mention here. 1. Rosewood Tucker’s Point (pictured on the previous page) has the most sparkle and boasts the island’s only private beach open to its hotel guests.2. Fairmont Southampton has spacious guest rooms and unrivalled facilities. 3. All rooms at family-owned The Reefs Resort & Club (pictured above) face west, offering spectacular sunset views over the ocean.4. The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club has been named the Official Host Hotel for the America’s Cup after a multi-million dollar refurbishment project.
