• Opening up of Approval Process to enhance the training capacity after STCW 1995.
• Initiation of Merchant Marine Education and Research Trust (MMERT) as a step to formation of the Indian Maritime University.
• Introduction of Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers License in 2005.
• Various initiatives to monitor and regulate the quality of Maritime Education and Training – Introduction of Rating agencies, Comprehensive Inspection Program, etc.
• Introduction of Simulators in the field of Training.
• Implementation of MLC 2006.
• Formation of Task Force from time to time to take a stock of situation overall and initiate improvements.
