ORDER OF WORSHIP AUGUST 22, 2021

* Please stand if you are able Prelude “O Worship the King” arr. Flor Peeters Introit “Heart of Worship” by Michael W. Smith Gathering and Discipleship Opportunities *Opening Prayer All: Lord, the eyes of all look to You in hope; and You give them what they need. You open Your hand and satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. We, too, turn to You again, longing to be filled— to eat of the Bread of Life, to drink from Your life-giving streams, to taste Your goodness and live. May the time we spend together in Your presence nourish our hearts and minds; may it strengthen our relationship with You, and renew our commitment to live in this world as Your faithful disciples. For You alone are God, the Source and Sustainer of life. In Jesus’ name, Amen. *Opening Hymn “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” UMH #400 Call to Worship L: We gather to celebrate and joyfully sing to our God! All: Together, let us share our praises and thankfulness. Come, let us enter into this sacred space with praise. L: You O God, are the Holy God always and forever! You are the Eternal One from whom all things come. All: Come, let us enter into this sacred space with thanks. L: O God, we are your children, created by and with your love. All: Come, let us enter into this sacred space with joy and delight.

Prayer of Confession All: O God, You who are always doing a new thing, we confess that we sometimes close windows against the fresh air of new ideas, against the noise of other people’s worries, against the winds of change. God of every place and time, we confess that we often draw the curtains against people who are different, against world news or community concerns. Forgive us our insulation in our locked homes, our shuttered churches, the security systems on our hearts. Open up our lives, and let your Spirit blow through. Amen. *followed by a time of silent and listening prayer Hymn of Praise “How Great Thou Art” UMH #77 Prayer Hymn “O Lord, Hear My Prayer” FWS #2200 Pastoral Prayer The Lord's Prayer Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Scripture Old Testament: Deuteronomy 10:17-22 Psalm: Psalm 100 New Testament: Acts 2: 43-47

Tuesdays With Ali 10am

(starting Sept. 7)

The first book study will be "God's Messy Family: Finding Your Place When Life Isn't Perfect" by Jacob Armstrong. You can purchase your book on Amazon or Cokesbury. Just show up for the first week!

Summary of the Book: Drama. Drama. Drama. Your family may be the stuff of a hit reality TV show, but into every family a little…or a lot… of drama must sometimes fall. That’s the way we humans have been from the very beginning. Take a look at the lives of Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, and Esau in Jacob Armstrong’s newest book, God’s Messy Family. As you meet these “messy” families in the stories in Genesis, you’ll recognize a pattern to their lives: they are called, they mess up, and God continues to redeem them. Sound familiar? Find out how your “messy” family fits into God’s family and how you are part of God’s plan for the world. A DVD featuring Armstrong and a Leader Guide are also available for this six-week study. All are invited to stay for Prayer Circle directly following the study.
