POKHRAN (Raj), Nov 7:
Army today successfully testfired the nearly 300-km-rangeBrahmos supersonic land attackcruise missile here.
"At 1000 hrs today, theIndian Army fired Brahmos land-attack cruise missile successfullyagainst a designated target atPokhran test range in Rajasthan,demonstrating the weapon'ssupreme operational capability,"Defence officials said.
The missile was testlaunched by a MobileAutonomous Launcher (MAL)deployed in full configuration.
The test-fire, carried out inthe user-deployment configura-tion by trained army personnel,met all the mission objectives,
they said."BRAHMOS missile sys-
tem, the most lethal and potentweapon system for precisionstrike available with IndianArmy, has proved again itseffectiveness in today's success-ful launch," said Sudhir Mihra,Chief of Brahmos Aerospace.
The Army has alreadyinducted three regiments ofBrahmos in its arsenal. All areequipped with Block-III ver-sion of missile, which was test-ed on May 8 and 9 this year.
The land-attack version ofBrahmos has been opera-tionalised in the Army since2007.
The fire-and-forget Missilehas the capability to take on sur-face-based targets by flying a
combined high-low trajectory,thus evading enemy air defencesystems.(PTI)
