Indian Express industry has undergone large changes in recentpast. Industry which was once dominated by Indian PostalDepartment is now dominated not only by a few large nationalplayers but also comprise large multinational players and smallregional and local players. Indian industry is led by Blue DartExpress Ltd which has been maintaining its number oneposition with largest network. However, with the entry of largeinternational players and plans of expansion in Indian market,

HISTORY

The Indian Courier Industry started during the 70 s . Especially in Mumbai, offer point to point overnight courier

services at attractive rates.

In 1979, DHL entered in Indian market. During the late 80 s many courier companies burgeoned like

First Flight, Overnite, Blazefalsh etc. This period also saw the growth and consolidation by domestic

majors like Blue Dart and Elbee. The later years saw entry by other international players like

TNT and Worldwide Express etc.

Industry was once dominated by Indian Postal Department. Few large national players. Comprises large multinational players.

Small regional and local players. India has more than 2300 courier companies. Indian courier industry is generating a business of over Rs.

7000 crore.

The industry is growing a phenomenal rate of 25% p.a.
