SCOPE
The forecasted size of the clinical research market in India by 2010 varies from $300 million (Ernst & Young) to $1.5-$2 billion (McKinsey). This range reflects India's potential to be a major global player in clinical trials.
India is fast-emerging as an attractive destination for clinical trials. Today, the market value of clinical research outsourced to India is estimated at more than US$300 million compared with US$ 140 million in 2006 and it is expanding at 40% over last 3 years. By 2010, it is projected to be of US$1.5 – 2.0 billion.
In 2005% only 1% of the global trials were conducted in India and it is expected to conduct 15% of the global trials by 2011. The matter of fact is that, India's clinical research industry is still relatively small in size compared to the global clinical trial industry estimated at around $30 billion.

OPPORTUNITIES IN CR
India has 300 universities, over 750 graduate and post-graduate programs, and about 50 million collage graduates.
Presently there are only 40 institutes offer courses in clinical research and provide 5000 trained professionals annually. This is inadequate as industry needs approximately 11,000 professionals annually.
By 2011, India will require 50,000 professionals to support its booming CR industry.1. INDIA Vital Stats
