04. DELEGATES

We had 338 delegates to the CME, 438 delegates to theconference from all the Medical colleges in the AP State. Theparticipants included post graduate students, faculty, practicingpathologists, consultants and eminent experts / emeritusprofessors in the field.

05. CENTRAL THEME OF CME : HAEMATOLOGY

Haematological disorders are increasing day by day andthe predominant scene in the medical field oflate is that doctorsfrom multiple specialities are approaching and consulting withthe haemato-pathologists with regard to diagnosis, management, and prognosis of various blood disorders. Rapid changes anddevelopments are taking place in this field and this topic hadnot been covered under CME since long.

The peripheral smear study is the gold standard of theday. Thorough interpretation of smear is a must for appropriatediagnosis of the disease. Though lot of technological innovationshave come up, no automatic mechanised analyser could replaceyet the smear study being done by the pathologists by using theirwisdom, diligence and discretion. Like wise, necessity is arisingquite often in several quarters to assess exactly the blood and

blood components. It is the pathologist in the blood bank whohas to decide it professionally by taking in to consideration theclinical condition of the patient.

Hence, Haematology is taken as the central theme for theCME. Important and practically relevant aspects of this field werediscussed and deliberated upon to enable the pathologists tobrush up and update their knowledge.

Dr. K. Gayatri and her team of pathologists Dr. Manu Goyaland Dr. U. Srinivas , with their vast experience and expertise, hadenlightened the delegates by making presentations on varioushaematological disorders. Starting from the basics, latestadvancements and trends in Haematology were discussed in theCME meet.

Dr. A. Sugandhi , a practicing expert in blood banking andDirector of A.S.Raja Blood Bank, made an effective presentationon and described at length the " Current trends in blood banking"

It is needless to emphasise as to how important is theknowledge and understanding of the basics of immunehaematology for the Post graduates. Dr. Sudha S. Bhat has helpedthe delegates to revisit the basics of immune haematology bypresenting them in a clear manner.

The CME had 8 credit hours.

It was appreciated by one and all that a very importantand practically relevant topic like Haematology was chosen fordiscussions & deliberations in the CME.
