JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, a Deemed to be University-(formerly known as Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University) was established in the year 2008 with a founding vision to serve the needs of the community at large and envisons emerging as a unique institution in Higher Education sector. J S S A c a d e m y o f H i g h e r Education & Research, Mysuru, comprises of JSS Medical College, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSS College of Pharmacy at its main campus in Mysuru (Karnataka) and JSS College of Pharmacy, Ootacamund, TN, is it's off campus. Besides the above constituent colleges, the deemed to be University has established the Department of Water and Health (Faculty of Life Sciences) and Department of Health System Management Studies (Faculty of Management Studies) with the approval of UGC. Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) of JSSU was established in the year 2013 and its objective is to foster and promote interdisciplinary and interactive research among the faculty members of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, especially in the fields of Biosciences. The FLS is offering Programs in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Cognitive Neurosciences, Cosmetic Sciences, Nano Science and Technology, Nutrition and Dietetics and Environmental Sciences.

Indian Association of Applied Microbiologists

Indian Association of Applied Microbiologists is one of the representative voluntary organizations of Microbiologists of basic and applied aspects, which looks after the interest of many eminent microbiologists, students and the well being of the society. Indian Association of Applied Microbiologists was formed in the year 2000 under Tamil Nadu Society's Registration Act 1975, under the leadership of Prof Dr. P. Rajendran. As an organization, it has continued to play an important role in its deliberations to help in R&D in the field of Microbiology. So far it has proudly hosted Fifteen National Conferences in various parts of TamilNadu. Today it stands as a well established Association which organizes periodic meetings, symposia, workshops and special lectures by eminent scientists world over.

Awards

Studies on relationship between microbes and humans are not new but understanding the relationship at genomic level has brought a new dimension in life sciences. The combined genetic material of microbes in humans is called Human Microbiome. The vast study of human microbiome will give a better understanding on drug designing that helps eradicate diseases rather than just suppressing them. This conference is planned to bring scientists, research scholars, industrialists and entrepreneurs together in order to dissipate the knowledge to the younger generation. The Conference includes the following thrust areas* Human Gut Microbiome* Microbial Metabolomics* Microbiota in Human Diseases & Medicine* Agricultural Microbiology - Role of Microbes in Plants, Soil, Animals &

Humans* Food Technology- food processing, food preservation, pre/probiotics* Industrial Microbiology/Biotechnology - microbial fermentation, enzyme

technology, strain improvement.* Environmental Microbiology* Pharmaceutical Microbiology-drug designing, novel therapeutics,

personalized medicines. This conference will help in the enrichment of interdisciplinary knowledge and provide a global vision to the current challenges in research.

Young researchers who excel in their research areas are encouraged with the following Awards. Competitors are requested to mention the name of the award during submission of application. All awards will be presented during the valedictory ceremony on 28th September, 2018 except for the Lifetime Achievement Award. 1. Lifetime Achievement Award

This award is given to an eminent Microbiologist with minimum 25 years of experience and other credentials. The executive committee of the association will

nominate candidates for this award. The awardees will be presented with citation, medal and a certificate. 2. Outstanding Teacher Award

This award is nominated by the executive committee and is instituted by Dr. N. Selva kumar, Scientist-G, National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis for a teacher working in Science College from more than 10 years in Microbiology with credentials. The nominated teacher will be given a citation, medal and certificate. 3. Anand Rao Memorial Award

Anand Rao Memorial Award is for the best paper presented. This award was instituted by Dr. Usha Anand Rao. The candidate should submit the abstract of the paper to the Secretary, Dr. N. Arunagirinathan, Assistant Professor in M i c r o b i o l o g y , P r e s i d e n c y C o l l e g e , C h e n n a i - 6 0 0 0 0 8 . email:[email protected] on or before August 15th 2018. The winner will be presented with the medal and certificate during valedictory function. 4. Prof. Dr. P. Rajendran's "Young Scientist Award"

This award is given to the Microbiologists below the age of 35 yrs (Age proof should be attached) for their research work. The candidate should submit 2 page write up on the specific research work on a specialized field carried out so far with the list of publications and other credentials to the Secretary, Dr. N. Arunagirinathan, Asst. Professor, Department of Microbiology, Presidency College, Chennai, email:[email protected] The selected candidate will be given a citation, medal and certificate. 5. Dr. Hansel Fletcher and Dr. Wilson Aruni Scholarship award

The award is given in the field of "Applied Molecular Microbiology" to students who are currently enrolled in Masters/ M.Phil /Ph.D program at the time of submitting the nomination. Nomination for the award should be submit ted to the Secre tary , Dr . Arunagir inathan, through email:[email protected] along with a letter from a competent authority verifying the student candidature with an abstract (250 words) covering aim, introduction, methods, results and conclusion of the work. The work should be presented during the special session and best presentation will be selected for this award. The award will include a certificate and medal. 6. Dr.Wilson Aruni Award for "Best Research Mentor & Teacher Award"

This award is presented for one deserving best teacher and research mentor. The qualifying candidate for this award should hold a permanent teaching position in college/Institution and should have a minimum of 10 years overall teaching and research experience. The application should be nominated by the Head of Department (or) the Head of the institution of the candidate. The candidate should be less than 45 years of age at the time of application (Proof of age should be submitted) and should possess a Ph.D. in any field of Microbiology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry. The awardees will be selected by the executive committee constituted by the IAAM.

Applications should contain a one-page covering letter addressing their significant achievements in teaching and research and separate descriptive curriculum vitae that includes publications (preferably with impact factors), patents, students mentored with the topic of their research and their respective publications. 7. Dr. Narasingam Arunagirinathan Award for "Best Research Scholar"

Dr. Narasingam Arunagirinathan Award is given for the best research scholar in the field of Microbiology. The research scholars should send the abstracts to Dr. Arunagirinathan, secretary IAAM, email:[email protected]. Three
