India, China show unity, target rich nations on climate changeShivam SinghShivam Singh

Rarely India and Chi-na unite over something. But climate change is one issue which has of-ten brought the Asian gi-ants together. The stage was set at Bonn Climate Change Conference, an attempt to unite the world against the dangers of global warming.

India and China spear-headed the call of de-veloping countries to the developed ones. The developing nations re-minded that it was high time that Kyoto Protocol

was implemented by rich countries. The developed nations including US and EU were requested to make required emission cuts as per the protocol.

Previously in the con-ference, the coterie of developed nation made every possible attempt to thwart developing cir-cle’s plan to add pre-2020 commitments of rich na-tions on emission cuts. EDITORIALNEWSONDOT It’s a tsunami of reforms in Saudi Arabia, where is Narendra Modi’s own revolution?

12 - 18 NOVEMBER , 2017NEW DELHINATION/CITY

Saudi Arabia is not a democracy but its 32 year old crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman is fast becoming a popu-

The youth of the country are rallying behind him for his out of the box reforms. In a recent un-precedented move, the crown prince sentenced 11 princes, cabinet of-

world’s richest men to jail on charges of cor-ruption. All these people have relished the sta-tus of being above law for most part of their lives. But the youth of the country have silent-ly been hankering for a change in the decaying system where the rich and powerful could mis-use their position as per will. How could their favourite crown prince MBS, as they lovingly refer to him deny his people a corruption free state? He had the guts to

that in a country which has never seen rule of

the people. But his cou-rageous act also high-lights the case of India. India elected one of its most popular Prime Ministers in Narendra Modi in anticipation of a tsunami of change- a corruption free state, a better administration and an improved stan-dard of living.

It’s roughly three years since Modi took the reins of the country. And right since then, 1.3 billion people have been waiting for his MBS moment. It’s not that Narendra Modi hasn’t introduced reforms. He should be credited for uplifting India’s stature in the world. His foreign policy has been exem-plary. Government’s push for a boom in the manufacturing sector is obscured from none.

All these things are good. But are they all that people voted him for? No, people vot-ed for him because he showed them a dream, a dream of a modern

nation where corruption would never be tolerat-ed. He was elected as a symbol of change. The question is, where is the change? The corrupt ba-bus continue to exploit the common man and the poor still perishes of hunger. The youth are still struggling for jobs and the SMEs are still

-tain.

It’s only conspicu-ous to ask that where is the hard-hitting and reformist Modi that was promised to the nation of India? In him, the country saw a revolu-tionary leader. But he is yet to incite that revolu-tion. The PM has been doing a lot on various fronts but it’s high time now that he draws his attention inwards and puts his home in order. The country yearns for more. And the people cannot be blamed for it. They have high expec-tations from their leader because they see hope in him.

More commercial courts to come up

said the Union Govern-ment proposed to estab-lish commercial courts in districts to further improve the parameters. It’s the ranking season for quite some time now. After India’s good show in World Bank’s “Ease of Doing Business” rank-ing, India’s performance has been varied within the legal framework. The World Bank’s ranking marked “court system

and proceedings in In-dia” a 4.5 out of 5. But in management of cases, it was 1.5 out of 6.

Legal remedy to com-mercial disputes and enforcements and en-forcement of business contracts are parameters of the World Bank rank-ings. In terms of ease of enforcing contracts, India jumped from 172 to 162.

Although this leap is quite small, it is believed to be essential to go fur-

ther up in Ease of Doing Business ranking. The government is proposing amendments to facili-tate the establishment of commercial courts, at a district level, in places where the High Courts have ordinary original civil jurisdiction.

of commercial disputes would be brought down as to expand the scope of commercial adjudication

President calls for time bound plan to reduce crop wastage

The President of In-dia, Ram Nath Kovind, called for a time bound plan to reduce, if not fully eliminate, crop wastage in India. Recently India hosted a World Food In-dia (WFI) event in which delegates and CEOs of 60 countries attended the function. This was a good opportunity for India as it made $11.4 billion. Mr. Kovind called the event “the Kumbh Mela of In-dian food” as it helped showcase the vast and near limitless opportuni-ties in the food industry and in food processing in India. India’s food indus-try can be a huge employ-er, especially to its large youth population and women, who are deeply

involved in the food sec-tor. He added that women in rural areas have great potential in becoming micro-entrepreneurs and in turn raise the job em-ployment in the adjoining population.

He said that crop wast-age in the country is un-acceptably high and the

numbers are startling. At the concluding ceremony of WFI, he revealed that close of 16% of India’s guava crop is wasted, 10% of the mango and apple crops are wasted and thus he wanted some really hard measures to prevent such regrettable wastage.

‘Paradise papers’ revealing failures of demonetizationIt is exactly a day less

in a year when Indian PM Narendra Modi imposed demonetization, mak-ing the country ill and cashless for a temporary phase. Demonetization was executed with a dic-tum of “Enduring pain for a better future” In this one year several things like; linking your Adhaar card with your account num-ber for attaining the trans-parency of all the cash in motion, and GST, giving a common platform to all the taxes which needs to be paid by a citizen, came into consideration.

The word demonetiza-tion had been under a lot of connotations and is un-der a continuous question whether it will be able

to curb black money and corruption or will it be again an agenda inclin-ing towards bureaucrats, crushing the middle class in between. Well the ex-posed 19th rank of India amongst 180 countries in Paradise papers, suggests the former.

Coincidently, the dis-closure comes just a day before NDA government

Politicians play blame game as Delhi chokes on smog

The blame game and war of words between prominent politicians is on full swing even as Delhi is being smothered by unbearably high levels of pollution. The capital is pres-ently laden with thick smog which has made safe breathing a luxury. If any-one though cli-mate change is

-lem, welcome to Delhi. However, the leaders in power are yet to take any concrete steps. All that they have managed is a round of shifting of blame.

The Arvind Kejriwal

led AAP government is blaming the Punjab and Haryana government for doing little to dissuade burning of crop stubble

by farmers. The Punjab CM has very conve-niently shifted the blame on centre. In a tweet, he claimed that there was not much he could do to improve the situation. And the solution was

only with centre. The NGT is busy issuing di-rectives to concerned au-thorities but the situation is Delhi-NCR is far from

improving. In another

surprising inci-dent, the Punjab government in Pakistan also made a call to Punjab CM Capt. Amarind-er Singh ask-ing him to do something to

reduce pollution. People from across the city are reporting of severe burn-ing sensation in eyes and headaches. Immediate action should be taken by concerned parties and the blame game has to end.

World Gold Council predicts dip in India’s gold demand

Gold is a part of life in India. In the country, jewellery means gold. A dip in demand of gold in India is something unbe-lievable and yet it seems poised to happen. In a report released by World Gold Council, it’s stated that overall consumption

plunge in demand could be a result of Indian government’s increased

transparency in gold trad-ing.

A more watchful eye simply means a decrease

in black money supported trading. However, the fall may well be a result of Indian consumer’s gradu-al shift towards non-gold jewellery.

The demand of gold in India is set to hover

After the Doklam cri-sis, India in previous week has withdrawn the additional troops being deployed at the China border. The Army had is-sued an operational alert during the Doklam cri-sis as part of which the troops had been deployed by it from the newly raised mountain strike corps. Even China had also deployed equal num-ber of their troops in the area. The troops were a

part of the Ranchi-based 17 Mountain Strike Corps which has been specially raised to carry out war-fare on the China front. It was a need of the hour to deploy to stay alert at the border and thus such a huge number of troops were deployed in Leh.

Two brigades (6000 troops) have already been withdrawn from there and are sent back to their actual locations after the decision was announced.

Trump receives grand welcome on China visit

Is nuclear war ‘threat’ gaining traction? The world is witness-

ing an array of consec-utive nuke war threats between U.S and N.Ko-rea since past one year. The N.Korean President Kim jong-un is trying to keep world superpow-er on tenterhook by re-peated nuclear tests, one of which lead to death of 200 citizens back in September, to which US President Donald Trump retreated by threatening to shackle N.Korea all at once, during his meet with S.Korean President, last Thursday.

Rhetorically, the Cu-ban missile crisis that brought US and USSR

on the verge of nuke war breakout is the testimony to, why It will not be wise to neglect these ongoing menace catapulted by both the countries.

The India-Pakistan verbal spat never goes missing with nuke war possibilities either. It is almost shocking to see

how such grave neme-sis can be treated as any random threat; the nuke war threats might be los-ing their gravity due to the ubiquity of nuclear

weapon. Today, almost every country is stacked with their share of nucle-ar weapon which might draw the conclusion that,

group of 46 industrialized nation volunteered as Nuclear Supplier group (NSG) who were trust-ed the responsibility for supplying the raw ma-terials like Uranium and power plants which are the two most essential components of making a successful nuclear weap-on, failed miserably in guarding them to a need-ed extent.

Thus, even a subtle rage and rant between the two countries might lead to a destructive level of nuclear war anytime in the near future, making entire world prone to its consequences.

With more and more tech-nological ad-

children as small as 5-9 years fall under the cate-gory of obese and 40.1% of 10-14 years kids are overweight. The survey was well –conducted over 1000 kids in Delhi. As the physical activities in kids have reduced drastically in today’s kids, they don’t burn their calories after eating the food. Because of this they feel lethargic ahead which kills their remaining desire to work

and ex-ercise. As a matter

screen time is one fac-tor that is a

prominent feature in kids which is increas-ing obesity. Repercus-sions are far worse faced by children than we ex-pect. They are becoming more prone towards body shaming and bullying, which are major reasons of child’s distress in to-day’s scenario and we need to make corrections.
