PUBLISHER’S NOTE

The cargo industry is the backbone of the economy but it seldom gets the acknowledgement and recognition that it deserves. The sector needs a lot of encouragement to grow further. Hence, India Cargo Awards decided to give the much-

awaited recognition to the real heroes and the movers and shakers of the industry, people with initiative and foresight to take the cargo industry to even greater heights. These stalwarts need to be acknowledged, appreciated and encouraged in every region of the country - East, West, North and South.

As an endeavour to recognise the achievers of the cargo industry, who have worked strenuously towards taking the industry to its heights, India Cargo Awards travelled to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to pay accolade to the hard work of the players in West and South India.

Our top-most honour, the Gold Maya, is awarded to those stalwarts who have shaped the industry in the way it is today and created innovative ways to take the industry a notch higher.

The award ceremony is brought to life by a charismatic anchor and singer who makes everyone dance and sing to her beats. At the black-tie, Silver Service event, various performers enthral and amuse the audience. The third edition of India Cargo Awards - West & South was the beginning of a new journey of long-term association for some and renewal of a bond we share with many others.

India Cargo Awards will be travelling to various other cities in India in its subsequent edition.

accomplishments of the extraordinaire leaders of cargo industry from the West & South regions of India. The ceremony was held on October 14, 2017 at Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre. Gau-tambhai Navalchand Shah, Mayor,

cargo industry in AhmedabadIndia Cargo Awards honoured the real run-ners of the industry. The 32 winners were chosen after a fair and unbiased selection process which includes an online voting platform. Appreciating the efforts done by DDP Group on encouraging the cargo industry with the recognition for their hard work, Shah said, “The second phase of India’s growth would come from places like Ahmedabad along with the biggies off course. These are the stations which would propel India’s growth including the growth of the cargo sector.”

M. Afzal Malbarwala, Managing Direc-tor, Galaxy Freight, was awarded with the prestigious ‘Gallery of Legends’ award. Malbarwala says, “The industry is coming into modernisation; from the typing of an airway bill in a typewriter now we are talk-ing about e-airway bills and e-commerce. Modern warehouses have come, and the industry is booming. Nevertheless, the change is good for industry. The most recent change was Goods and Services Tax (GST); off course the tax has led to a cash crunch in the industry. But, with the government and stakeholder’s discussion on the challenges, it will get streamlined in the near future. The tax is good for industry and it will have long run benefits. For a better future, it is always good to have a long-term perspective.”

The esteemed ‘DDP Game Changer’ award went to Samir J Shah, Immediate Past Chairman, FFFAI; Partner JBS Group

and Chief Mentor, JBS Academy. With 33 years of experience in international freight forwarding and customs, Shah is a part of many national and international trade as-sociations and chambers.

The coveted DDP Trailblazer award went to Samir H. Mankad, CEO & Executive Director, GSEC. Vaibhav Vohra, Manag-ing Director, Continental Carriers, was awarded with the prestigious ‘Face of the Future’ award.

India Cargo Awards first started in Goa and since then the popularity and strength of these awards has grown mani-fold. Thanking the industry for their con-

tinuous support, SanJeet, Mentor, India Cargo Awards, says, “The cargo industry is synonymous with the progress and de-velopment all over the country. Everyone is committed to deliver enhanced value to the industry by driving safe, secure and profitable and sustainable supply chain. Recognition to these efforts are equally important. We have instituted these awards for this precise reason. The regional awards recognise those estab-lishment which may not be able to see the light of day at a national level. This recognition that we bestow on regional players has helped make the India Cargo Awards, a leading award, in a very short period of time.”
