As a part of the mid-year review of student achievement for those using the Mathletics program we are celebrating a 24% improvement in scores for activities on the first attempt. On average children now score 88% in curriculum activities. Since the start of the year 111,430 points have been earned by children at Aveley Primary School. It was also a nice surprise to have received certificates for three children who have mastered over 85% of all the activities they have attempted. THANKYOUTHANKYOU

I am bringing to your attention the fabulous work done by volunteers at our school which contribute to us enjoying many of

the benefits that come with having a strong parent support base.

Firstly, I would like to thank Carly Hearn, Ashlyn and Finley Hearn’s mother, for providing her professional services as a graphic designer to produce our first Business Plan. This document is currently in the process

of being printed. When ready the business plan will be

distributed to all families.

Secondly, the success of the Boys, Boys, Boys seminar by Maggie Dent which is being held next week. To date over 400 tickets have been sold at a value of over $12,000 gross. This initiative has been the result of Reagan and Colby Jackson’s mother, Stacey Jackson’s drive and determination to bring Maggie Dent to speak in our community and very kindly involved our P&C Association so that all profits come to our school. It is not too late to book your ticket for this entertaining, practical and informative talk by Maggie Dent, just see promotion flyer as part

of this newsletter for details.

Lastly, I want to thank all the parents that have paid their school fees. These funds allow the school to purchase necessary resources for the children to use such as sports equipment,

computers, art and music supplies and consumables.

PARENT TEACHER INTERPARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWSVIEWS

Many thanks to the parents and friends who attended meetings with class teachers last week on Wednesday, 29 July. Approximately 80% of all the families had one or both parents/carers attend the meetings. Feedback I have had from the parents and teachers was that these meetings were very

productive and successful for both parties.

NO DOGS ON SCHOOL PRNO DOGS ON SCHOOL PREMISESEMISES

I would like to remind everyone that dogs are not permitted on school grounds and ask if you are walking with your dog to school that you wait with your dog outside of the school grounds and that your children meet you at a set location. Shortly you will see some signage at each gate

to remind everyone of this rule.

SWIMMING LESSONSSWIMMING LESSONS

This term starting on Monday, 31 August and running two weeks until Friday, 11 September, children from Pre-primary to Year 6 are invited to attend swimming lessons at Altone Park Leisure Centre. A letter will be going home on Monday providing more details. The cost for each

child is $51. 00 inclusive of the bus fee. Please ensure your child has the appropriate swimwear and clearly mark all your child’s

belongings.

When you drive by this week you will see a new addition to the playground which was purchased with funds from the P&C. We have had installed a hand pump and dry creek bed next to the rainwater tank for children to use in their play and with watering

the gardens.

NEW ELECTRONIC SCHOONEW ELECTRONIC SCHOOL ZONE SIGNSL ZONE SIGNS

Last week you may have noticed the school zone signs being replaced with solar powered electronic signs. This is welcome as the new signs will be highly visible and contribute to making

the roads around the school safer.

RECENT NATIVE VISITORECENT NATIVE VISITOR TO OUR SCHOOLR TO OUR SCHOOL

Last week we had an unexpected visit from a long neck tortoise which may have wandered onto school grounds from the lake. It was a mature tortoise and was safely captured, shown to some classes and promptly returned to the lake. Please keep your eyes out when driving, walking or riding around the area for these creatures and keep them safe. Please talk to the children

about not handling these reptiles with bare hands.

I would like to leave you with a thought from Kipfer.

LOST PROPERTYLOST PROPERTY

We endeavour every week to go through our ‘Lost Property’ items and return them then to the child. However we have a large number of unmarked clothing, water bottles and lunch boxes without names.

Please ensure you clearly write your child’s name in permanent or laundry marker on all their items so that we can return them should they

end up in lost property.

WAKAKIRRIWAKAKIRRI

It is not long now until we are up on the big stage at The Regal Theatre wowing the audience with our story/dance skills! We are super proud of all of the performers. All children involved need to ensure the permission slips for the event on Thursday 13th August have been returned by now. We really enjoyed doing a dress rehearsal for the school yesterday and only six more sleeps until we're live on stage! I'd like to thank our wonderful, dedicated parents and staff who have assisted along the way with props, costume making etc. Your help has been greatly

appreciated by myself and Mrs Spencer.

If you have any questions, please remember to email

me: [email protected]

DONATION FOR THE LIBDONATION FOR THE LIBRARYRARY

Last Friday the library was open at lunch for the first time and it was a resounding success. Over 40 children came in to chat, draw, play some board games, do puzzles etc. I am asking for donations of any old board games, puzzles, card games and the like to cater for the demand each Friday moving forward. If you have anything that you'd like to donate, please bring them in to me in the music room Wednesdays to Fridays or leave them at the office for me on Monday or Tuesday as I am not here on these days.

Thankyou.

events planned for terms 3 and 4.

Catherine is looking for volunteers to help organise and run the event which promises to be a great night out for all the family. If you are interested in helping with your valuable time please contact her

on [email protected]

On Tuesday, 1 and Wednesday, 2 September the P&C will be running our annual Father’s Day Stall for the children at the school. Each class will have the opportunity to come and shop with gifts priced at $2, $3 and $5. If you are interested in helping at the stall, please contact Vice-President Joanne Needham on

Christina Cafini is co-ordinating a Clothes Swap Night. It promises to be a great night out for the ladies where you have the opportunity to pick up some great items for the wardrobe! If you are interested in

helping, Christina can be contacted on 0421 342 125.

Finally as you are aware, the school has received a grant to hold a Multicultural Concert and Food Fair titled “It’s A Small World After All” on Friday, 6 November. It will be a great evening full of entertainment and delicious food for the whole family. If you are able to help with this event, please contact President Natasha Cheung on 0433 288 953.
