The introduction of telehealthcare into modern society will become a necessary step towards enhancing people’s lives. MARKET OPPORTUNITY It is estimated the 90% of older people would like to live in their own home. 30% of homes in Europe and the US could benefit from assisted living monitors. Each deployment per home will include between 10 to 30 sensors. Barriers 98% of UK adults are unaware that assistive technologies are an important part of social care. Drivers GE and Intel are putting up $250 (£170m) of their own cash over the next five years to do R & D collaboratively on home healthcare devices. Of the £11billion spent on long term elderly care, £4billion is spent by patients themselves. Telecare could prevent 160,000 people from entering residential care per year, with potential costs savings of £2.0 billion per year. AGEING SOCIETY In the UK, the number of people over 65 is expected to almost double to 16.8 million by 2050 and the number of people suffering from long-term conditions will rise from around 18.5 million today to 20.6 million by 2020. There are currently around 600 million people globally in the developed economies who are over the age of 60.
