The work and planning the Peachtree MG Registry invest-
ed in MG2012 was evident at the show in Dillard, Ga. June 6-10. The show was a resounding success. The weather was perfect, the venue and food were wonderful, the cars were outstanding, but the people were the most memora-ble for me. The attendees came from throughout the US and Canada. Sur-prisingly few cars were trailered as the vast majority of the attendees drove their beloved MG’s to the show. It was quite an education to watch how creative some of the attendees were in packing their MG’s. One of the attendees, Zelda Davis, drove her MGB roadster solo from California. A feat I’m not sure many of us would contemplate, much less attempt. Zelda made it safely home after making a “short” detour to Michigan to visit family. At times it appeared the event was a big family reunion with all the family mem-bers arriving in MG’s. In addition to the people, I also enjoyed waking up each morning to a chorus of MG exhaust notes as attendees prepared for the ac-tivities of the day. It was also very interesting to see so many MG’s parked in front of local restaurants and businesses. We had approximately 100 MG’s attend the Tiger Drive-in theater on Thursday night. MG2012 Co-Chairmen, Tom George and Bill Gillson, deserve special thanks and recognition for their leadership, expertise and guidance in producing and directing such a well attended, successful show. The various Committee Chairs along with the other Peachtree MG Registry volunteers should also be commended for their efforts in making MG2012 a memorable event for mem-bers and guests alike. Congratulations to those PMGR members who brought home MG2012 Na-tional Show Awards.: Linton Atkinson, Bill Gillson, Chris Gore(2), Larry Nor-ton, Jim McCartney(2), Rhonda McCartney, Mark Jackwood, Mike Cook, Lou Ballard and Barry Rosenberg(2). I look forward to seeing you at future events and Gatherings…..Tom

MG 2012 and Dillard are history. Many of us were there and have won-derful stories to share with those who couldn’t come – whether they are other MG or LBC drivers or just friends from other aspects of our lives. For me, it was an opportunity to see some folks I have met at other events
and to meet many new and wonderful people. What a terrific community this MG world is. We should all be proud to be a part of it. When most of you read this, Barbara and I will still be on our extended trip to Italy and Israel (where a friend’s daughter is getting married). This will give us opportunities to see new places and to meet even more new and interesting people. We’ll certainly be sharing many of our sto-ries on the 4th of July when we start the day with the Largest 4th of July Parade in Georgia taking place in Dunwoody. Following the parade, we’ll gather once again at our home in Dun-woody for the traditional American burgers and dogs celebration. Details are elsewhere in the Registry newsletter. Be sure to send an email to [email protected] if you are joining us so we can inform the parade planners and the American Vets of how many cars will be available to ferry the vets in the parade. Remember, this is our opportunity to drive the Veterans of America’s conflicts in our British Cars in the American 4th of July Parade!! The only other club event in July is our traditional Pool Party and Tech Session at Tim and Z’s on July 28th. We generally gather for the tech session in Tim’s garage or his private lair around 10:00 and the girls get to enjoy the pool. Lunch is served starting about 1:00 or a bit later depending on how involved we are in the tech session. The pool, of course, is open all day. Be sure to send Tim and Z a note to either [email protected] or 404-705-9279. In your RSVP please include your preference of white or dark meat and what you are bringing for a side dish. Chicken and soft drinks will be provided by the Club. With only these two events and our Monthly Gathering at the Harp on July 8th, you might think that we were falling down on the planning end of our jobs. Not too worry as many more events are planned for August and September. In this quieter time following MG 2012, be sure to take your wheels out on the roads and enjoy some drives in your neighborhoods. The Peachtree MG Registry has a lot to be very proud of at the moment. Not only did we put on a terrific show in Dillard, but our members were there throughout the 5 day event to assist many others who were having challenges with their cars. One of the most beautiful sites was seeing our members toiling over a 1980 MGB LE from my home state of Oklahoma that blew its head gasket on the road to Dillard somewhere near Memphis. After the repair, Hiram and Becky were seen driving it around the area and on to the show field where they captured one of the awards in their class. Great job guys. Safety Fast

Happy Birthday One and All
Wow! what a great month June turned out to be. Beautiful weather, a mountain view, and The Dillard House hospitali-ty. As membership chair and Peachtree MG club members, Sheila and I met so many wonderful people. So many great people Tom G, Tom H, Paul, Patty,Bill, Larry and the wives
and all the rest of the volunteer's made a huge event look so easy and run flawless. We were so proud to be a part of this experience. We also picked up a few new members along the way.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS. Kelly and Mary Ann Burke Andrew and Emily Eilers
Our thoughts to the club. I can’t think of a time or place when Sheila and I have been made to feel just like family in such a very short time. The friends we have made in the last two years are priceless, and will always be treasured. So, for all of the new members if you have the opportunity to be more ac-tive in the club you will open yourself up to all kinds of new and exciting things! Simply Amazing !!!!!!! Thank you Peachtree MG family. John and Sheila

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of our friend,
Charlie Mitchell
Please read the eulogy by Tom George on Page 10

In Memoriam: Charlie Mitchell 1923 – 2012
Charlie Mitchell is my example of the principle of the theory of “six degrees of separation”. I know Charlie because I bought an MG from Barry Rosenberg who suggested that I should join the Peachtree MG Registry. I didn’t do it right then as I thought the car was too rough to stand up against the pristine examples that I thought I would find in the club. But I did buy an MG t-shirt, which I wore to the Marietta Square for the start of the Great Race when it first came to Georgia. A woman came up to me and enthusiastically asked me if I had and MG, was I a member of the local MG club and would I like to be? This was the first time I met Nancy DeLoatch, Charlie’s daughter, and her husband Dennis. Dennis didn’t say much but smiled a lot. I took the information from Nancy and went to the next month’s meeting. The rest, as they say, is history and I soon had my first opportunity to meet Charlie Mitchell not long after that. Charlie’s ever-present smile helped me to understand why Nancy had been so “enthusiastic” that day on the Marietta Square. In the dozen or more years that I knew him I don’t ever think I saw him frown or have a cross word with anyone. He always had the same greeting for me once we got to know each other. He would see me, smile, stick out his hand for a firm handshake and say, “Tom, I’m glad for you to see me.” That became our usual greeting whenever we saw each other. I’m sure it wasn’t restricted to use with just me, as Charlie was glad to see everybody. I got to go out to Charlie’s house a few times and always marveled at the MGs he had there along with a Triumph Spitfire he had in pieces in the basement workshop. When I asked him about it he said he was too busy to put it back together. "Get everything done while you are working, because once you retire, you don't have time for anything." But Charlie did have time especially for Jane, his wife of 59 years, and his sons Storm & Dan, and of course for Nancy. He also made time for his travels with the Southeastern MG T Regis-try, driving to many events and touring the Natchez Trace. And he made time for anyone who wanted to have a chat about this or that or about MGs, particularly when it came to the electri-cal side, his specialty from his many years working with electronics at the FAA. And he and Dennis took his prized 1953 MG-TD on a tour with The Great Race when it came back to Atlanta a few years after the Marietta event. They left from Centennial Olympic Park as the local rally stage prior to the official start of the event. I remember the big smiles on both of their faces as they pulled away from the starting line and headed through the gathered crowd to cheers and applause. I think that image of Charlie will always be stuck in my head and it will be the way I want to re-member him. Smiling, doing something he loved with the people who loved him.

Hospitality Report 6/23/12
Gayle and I (Barbara) wish to thank all of you Peachtree MG members who joined together and valiantly offered hospitality to the hungry drivers and navigators and their assorted friends, rela-tives and children who attended MG 2012! You are just wonderful people!!! Y’all really came through! We served 15 dozen hard boiled eggs, 2 full bushels of fresh peaches, 10 pounds of raw pea-nuts in the shell, 150 bananas, as many cheese logs as Jean Highsmith could make and carry, gallons of homemade pimento cheese by Beth Ehrie, as much soda and water as fit in a truck. 15 to 20 gallons of tea (unsweet!!, sugar available), more coffee than the staff at Dillard House thought they could carry and all the dozens of containers of homemade goodies and cookies that people managed to provide and even then some Dillard House supplementation was nec-essary! I mention Jean and Beth because theirs were the most requested recipes. If you want the recipes, now, you know who to contact! We answered questions, loaned sun block and bug repellant, found car parts and generally helped all those hundreds in attendance to a full dose of Peachtree Hospitality. There were always people available to help and greet and meet visitors. No one had to be told what to do, you all just pitched in and did!!! After 5 mornings and 4 nights, we were exhausted, but we were still standing! Give yourselves a pat on the back, better yet, make sure you give one to the next Peachtree MG member you see for being part of this massive effort! I think we have taught NMGBR how it can be done and we did it right!!! Give yourselves and your navigators a congratulatory kiss and save one for the road!!!

___________________________________________________ I have a 1973 MGB roadster and quite a few MGB parts that I would like to sell. The car would be a difficult restoration for street use. I bought it to make a vintage racer (used to race a '66B), but alas have run out of time and ambition to finish the project. The body is pretty solid-needs floorpans and a little sill re-pair. I have 2 motors (not running), trans, rearends, new waterpump, and quite a few other parts. $1200 would take the lot of it. Know anybody that might be in-terested? Please contact [email protected] Thanks for your time.

If your car/item sells please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks, Bob

MGB Chrome Wire Wheels (4) -- 14x4.5 60 spoke Dunlop chrome wire wheels as above. I was surprised how nicely these cleaned up. While they do have minor rust, if you have the patience to polish them out, you will have a very nice set of chrome wire wheels. $300 obo. Contact me at [email protected] for detailed pictures and any additional information. Jeff Adams, Atlanta I bought 4 Michelin tires for my MGA and within about 40 miles ran over a spike and ruined that tire. I went back to Gran Tourisimo and they said that Michelin no longer produces that tire. I had to go up one size. You can still buy that tire through Cokers in Tennessee for $200-$300 each. That's got to be for a show car. Gran Toursamo sells a slighty bigger tire for 4 tires for $471.11 for a car which is a driver. That's $117.78 per tire which includes balancing and tubes. I now have 3 Michelin XZX tires, 165 SR 15 radial tires for sale $300 total. That's $100.00 each. This is the original size tires for MGAs and MGBs. Please call me if you have questions.
