THE PROBLEM

Our client—a window and door retailer in the Washington,

D.C. area—understood that their potential customers were

searching for their window and door products online.

Although the company was extremely proud of their web-

site design, they knew that they needed help to increase

the site’s visibility in search engine results.

After a year of investing in SEO and pay per click advertis-

ing with Blue Corona, the client’s website was getting more

visits, but was still suffering from a poor conversion rate.

And as we like to say at Blue Corona,

Traffic without leads sucks!

THE SOLUTION

Although the company was initially reluctant to modify

their site design, we were able to convince our client that

adding a simple sidebar contact form to every page of

their website (including their pay per click landing pages)

would help to increase their website conversion rate.

Why a sidebar contact form? Not everyone likes to pick up

the phone and call, unless they are in dire need of your ser-

vice, so filling out a contact form to get more information

or receive a call back about a service is great for overall

user experience and also for increasing leads. In addition,

by having a contact form on every page of your website,

you eliminate any additional hoop jumping a customer has

to take to contact you.

“I Have My Email Address Listed— Is That Good Enough?”

If you just have a “Mail To” link on your site that opens a

new email message box after it is clicked, you will not be

able to track your visitors. The “Mail To” link opens in a new

window, and once your users leave your page, you have no

way of tracking your website data. This makes it difficult to

accurately track which of your marketing strategies are the

most effective. However, if you use a website contact form,

you can set up goal completion tracking in Analytics to

attribute contact form submissions to their proper market-

ing source.

THE RESULTS

We implemented the sidebar contact form in April 2014 and saw

an immediate increase in conversions:

In the time period that the sidebar contact form has been live,

the client has seen a 73% increase in conversions from the previ-

ous year. Looking at the same year over year timeframe, we see

the website conversion rate has improved from 1.11% to 1.81%.

TAKEAWAYS

Even if your business is in the #1 paid and organic spot, your

ultimate goal with SEO and pay per click advertising is to in-

crease leads and sales—not simply to get more website visits.

Without strong calls to action and easy ways for your visitors to

convert— like sidebar contact forms—it’s likely that your website

will never reach its full lead generation potential.

Keep in mind that not all contact forms convert equally!

IT’S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONTINUALLY:

TRACK TEST TWEAK REPEAT

to find out which sidebar contact form helps you get the

most leads.

For example, does your sidebar convert better:

• On the right sidebar or the left sidebar?

• With four required form fields or five required form fields?

• With a call to action button that says “submit” or one that

says “get a quote?”

• With a red background or blue background?

• With or without a CAPTCHA?

There are an infinite number of tests you can run to optimize

your sidebar contact form for more conversions!
