DESCRIPTION

LJTF is an all-volunteer organization. Board Members, Coaches, Team Moms, and Team Dads are not paid for their services. This is not the case with some other leagues in our area, where directors and/or coaches may receive compensation. All programs charge registration fees, but cheaper isn’t necessarily less expensive. LJTF provides helmets, shoulder pads, and game uniforms. Other groups in our area may charge less at registration, but then require you to purchase your own helmet, shoulder pads, and game pants! LJTF uses only 5 star (highest) rated helmets and quality shoulder pads. All helmets are inspected annually by a qualified third party. Those that do not pass are removed from our inventory and replaced. All helmets and shoulder pads are sanitized in the off season. Many other organizations will use lower rated gear, and go two or more years between inspections. This increases our cost, but the health and safety of your child is our primary concern.

A Further Word on CostsOne expense most people are not aware of is LJTF’s annualpayment to LEAF (Lassiter Endowment for Athletic Facilities). LEAF was set up to pay for the original turf field, recently replaced by Lutzie Field. Although the original field is gone, LJTF’s annual payment of $10,000 remains through 2016. Overthe last two years LJTF also contributed a total of $15,000 toward Lutzie Field. It remains to be seen whether LJTF will be asked to contribute to a fund that will eventually be used to replace Lutzie.

Our largest expense is uniforms. At first glance it might be thoughtthat once purchased, they last for years. That is not the case, especiallyjerseys! Last season we instituted a program where we systematically replace jerseys every two years - home jerseys one year, away the next, and so on. Each year players will be allowed to keep their jersey that is being rotated out of stock. This allows a smoother way to keep quality jerseys in stock while providing your player with a keepsake, all at relatively little incremental cost over what we had to spend anyway!
