Acentralpurposeofhighereducationistohelpstudentsengageinmultipleperspectivesofevidence-basedanalysis,andthoughtfulrationalesfordevelopingpositionsoncomplexissues.Yetourclassroomsoftenaresitesofeitheruncivildialogueorsilence.Thisworkshopexploresourknowledgeofthreecriticalareasofstudentdevelopment:intellectualdevelopment/criticalthinking;interculturaldevelopmentandsensitivity;andselfawarenessandefficacy.Wewillexplorethreemodelsofstudentdevelopmentinthethreeareas,reviewstudentdata,andexploreeffectivewaystohelpstudentsbothencounterandnegotiatewhatseemtobeintractabledifferencesinmultipleareas.

psychologyoforganizationalchange;andresistancetochange.ShehasbeenDeanoftheSchoolofEducationatTheAmericanUniversityinWashington,DC;AcademicDeanoftheFacultyatMacalesterCollege;andisaSeniorFellowwiththeAmericanAssociationforHigherEducation.Dr.Knefelkampteachesawiderangeofcoursesinbothinterculturalcommunicationandinprofessionalethics.Sheisparticularlyknowledgeableinthestudyofethicalissuesininterculturalandglobalcontextsandhowtheethicalstancesofindividuals,groups,andorganizationsareformedinaninterculturalcontext.Sheisparticularlyinterestedinthedifferencesbetweenanaiveearlystageofintellectualthoughtinwhichtheindividualoftenthinksdichotomously(dualistically)andtheperniciousformofdichotomousthoughtwhichproducesauthoritarianismandbigotedthoughtandaction.

restorativejusticeatthecollegelevelandisalsointerestedincollegeaccessinitiativesforunder-representedstudentsaswellaspersistenceandretentioneffortsinhighereducation.Herresearchinterestsincludeurbansociology/education;theintersectionofrace,class,ethnicity,andgender;juvenilejustice;andlanguageusageandculture.EducationalTechnologyServices(ETS)TuftsUniversityTuftsTechnologyServices(TTS)EducationalTechnologyServicesisauniversity-wideservicegroup.Ourteamsofferfacultydevelopmentprogramsyear-round.WealsoconsultdirectlywithTuftsfacultytosupportteaching,learning,andscholarlycollaborationwithtechnologyandwedesign,develop,andintegrateacademictechnologyapplications.Additionally,weoffernewsystemstoenableteaching,learning,scholarlycollaboration,andco-curricularendeavorsacrossdiversecontextsatTuftsUniversity.
