The Incubator School , an innovative LAUSD-UTLA pilot school on
the Westside, is seeking experienced,
passionate, exceptionally qualified, self-starting blended
learning lab middle school teachers. Inc. launchedwith 6th and 7th
grade classes in the 2013-2014 school year and will subsequently
add one grade per year untilit reaches full capacity as a 6-12 span

Key Characteristics of The Incubator School Small school where
all students are known well and supported to achieve at high levels
Diverse community of students taught to become active,
self-starting builders of their own education Innovative,
challenging, project-based curriculum that engages all students
Emphasis on eight core beliefs: everyone is important; mindsets
matter; problems and mistakes are creative
opportunities; a changing world requires changing learning;
learning is relevant, personal, and fun; product is
public;connecting is key; and boldness, integrity, tenacity, and
effort
Exploration of six types of learning: social and emotional
learning; fundamental learning; deep learning; connectivelearning;
technological learning; and maker learning Faculty committed to
creating, learning, reflecting, collaborating, changing, and
growing Faculty committed to building relationships with students,
families, other faculty members, and community-based
experts
Qualifications Applying teachers MUST currently have an LAUSD
contract AND be willing to sign a pilot school elect-to-
work agreement (which will be determined by school governance
council) Commitment to develop and implement a rigorous
mastery-based curriculum using technology to create a
personalized educational experience for every student Regularly
assessing student mastery and implementing consistent and effective
intervention and enrichment
accordingly to meet the needs of students Technological
expertise and a willingness to expand and share this expertise
Commitment to Inc.s core beliefs and iterative startup philosophy
is essential, as is a passion for nurturing and
inspiring a diverse student body Desire to build and grow the
culture, processes, and institutions of a new school High level of
flexibility and adaptability Ability to work collaboratively with a
dedicated staff and involved parent body Deep content knowledge,
innovative pedagogical practice, and a willingness to share both
Developing expertise in Common Core and Next Gen Science Standards
Comfort with administering assessments, analyzing data, modifying
instruction in response to data Interests outside of school and a
willingness to share these interests with the school community
Multiple Subject Credential and a willingness to teach Core and
Loop OR Secondary (Single Subject) Teaching
Credential(s)/experience Experience working with 10-16 year-olds
preferred Entrepreneurial/business experience, multilingualism,
and/or blended learning experience a plus
