WHAT IS INCIWEB?
• An interagency website that provides “one stop shopping” for incident information to internal and external audiences.
• Primarily used for wildfires and prescribed fires, but can be used for other types of incidents.
• Sponsored by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) and available for use by federal, state and local wildfire agencies at no cost.
InciWebPast, Present and Future
A LITTLE HISTORY
• InciWeb was developed in 2003 by U.S. Forest Service Information Technology staff in California.
• InciWeb generates high levels of interest and high volumes of traffic, resulting in failures.
• Management of InciWeb transferred to U.S. Forest Service Washington Office Fire and Aviation Management Information Technology staff in 2009.
• Operation, maintenance, and continued development of InciWeb contracted to IBM in 2009.
• Interagency InciWeb Steering Committee established in 2010 to guide operations, maintenance, and continued development of the site.
• Reengineered InciWeb administrative site launched in 2013.

HOW CAN I GET PERMISSION TO USE INCIWEB?• Designed to enable units (i.e. National Forests, BLM
Districts, National Parks, State Forestry Divisions, etc.) to maintain long term control over incident information.
• Accounts must be established by units. PIOs and IMTs must request access to a unit’s InciWeb account through a designated superuser.
• Unit accounts are established based on their NWCG identifier.
• Additional information is available on the NIFC PIO Bulletin Board at (URL) http://www.nifc.gov/PIO_bb/inciweb.html in the “InciWeb Log In Accounts and Access” document

Live webinars will be offered three times this spring on:March 19April 16May 14
A recorded webinar, a tutorial, a manual, and other training materials are already, or soon will be, available on the NIFC PIO Bulletin Board at http://www.nifc.gov/PIO_bb/inciweb.html
Training materials are currently being developed that will enable field public affairs staff and PIOs to present InciWeb trainings (similar to S-203 and S-403)

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH INCIWEB NEXT?
2014 InciWeb priorities
• Complete transition to new InciWeb URL by March 1, 2013 http://inciweb.nwcg.gov
• Complete performance testing to identify areas for improvement
• Revise the 209 screen to reflect adoption of NIMS 209
• Address issues associated with use of Google maps on incident homepages
• Improve video feature by adding an embedded video converter
Beyond 2014
• Development of application for tablets and mobile devices
• Reengineering of the InciWeb Public Site – the place where audiences view incident information on the internet - will soon be underway.
