Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

90th Anniversary Journal. Ads and remembrances for our 90th Anniversary Journal are now being accepted. The Jour-nal will be published the weekend of June 10/11 to coincide with our 90th Anniver-sary Gala Dinner Dance. More infor-mation can be obtained at the Parish Office. All inclu-sions must be submitted by May 10.

FUEL COLLECTION. Today the annual “Fuel Collection” will take place. There is an additional envelope in the church packet that requests your generous contribution to defray the costs of the parish buildings. Needless to say, like your own homes, everyone is hit hard during the winter months. We ask every parishioner to be as generous as possible so that our parish buildings may remain warm and comfortable for everybody. Extra white “Fuel Collection” envelopes are in the church today for those who did not receive it. Thanks.

Day Light Savings Time Begins next Sunday, March 12. Don’t forget clocks Spring forward!

“At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.”

From the Pastor’s Pen

Somebody called the rectory at 12:30AM Ash Wednesday morning trying to find out the Mass Schedule. Indeed, it was very much a wake-up call. While I would have preferred they called when I am not sleeping it demonstrates the level of excitement Ash Wednesday brings. But not just Ash Wednesday, I think all of Lent has a special place in the hearts of Catholics. Winter is passing to Spring; the sun is rising earlier and setting later; children understand that the end of another school year is approaching. For Catholics, I think Lent is the opportunity to strive and be the Christians we want to be: kinder, more thoughtful, giving and prayerful. That’s why its such a big deal. We want to be transformed but we get tired, lose focus and return to bad habits after a time. At Incarnation, the parish has loads of opportunities to help you on your Lenten Journey. Daily Mass, Wednesday Vespers, Friday Stations in addition to weekly or monthly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the weekly meetings of our prayer groups all demonstrate that we take prayer together seriously. Clothing or Food Drives all heighten our awareness of what the St. Vincent DePaul society does each Friday as our Food Pantry doors open. Prayerfully supporting those who will be receiving the First Sacraments all throughout the Church hopefully make us more aware and appreciative of the reality that we can receive the Sacraments daily. But those tools are only helpful if you use them and get excited about what Lent means for you and your families. The excitement is that we want to be different; we want to be changed. The ash crosses adorning our foreheads as Lent begins tells the world that I am one of His followers. But eventually I’m going to wash my face. Will people know who I follow when the ashes are gone? They will if I can use this time to change. They will know who I follow if my face reflects God’s Glory or my actions imitate Jesus’ actions. But that will only be assured if I use this Lent wisely to become more a person of prayer, a Christian of charity; a creature of the Creator who formed me from the very dust to which I will return. There is an excitement about all the things that are happening here at Incarnation. That excitement is heightened during Lent but it is not limited to Lent. I guess we all want to be better people, better Christians. Lent is our time to do that. I guess we all just need a wake-up call. In a very real way mine came this Lent when Ash Wednesday was only 30 minutes old. Blessed Lent to all! God Bless!

LENTEN REGULATIONS—Abstinence: The Church requires all the faithful who have reached their 14th year of age to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting: All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are also bound to observe the fasting regulation on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken at 2 other occasions in the day.

Girl Scout Sunday will be commemorated at the 10:30 Mass next Sunday. Over a Hundred Years of Scouting is definitely something to thank God for.

Lenten Vespers Series. My Lenten Journey with Jesus will take place on the Wednesdays of Lent at 7:30PM. Each week a different parish deacon will come to Incarna-tion to assist us on our journey. Mar 8 Jesus, My Friend – Dcn Francois Mar 15 Jesus, My Teacher – Dcn Munoz Mar 22 Jesus, My Healer – Dcn Clemenceau Mar 29 Jesus, Lord – Dcn Robinson Apr 5 Jesus, My Cross-Bearer – Dcn Lopez The Lenten program will conclude on Apr 12 with a Parish Seder Supper in the school auditorium. Make plans to join us as we sing the Evening Prayer of the Church and Journey with Jesus.

Securing an Annual Living Light Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a con-tinual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of

the newly restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for addi-tional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. The Shepherd Speaks

Migration, in its various forms, is not a new phe-nomenon in humanity’s history. It has left its mark on every age, encouraging encounter between peo-ples and the birth of new civilizations. In its es-sence, to migrate is the expression of that inherent desire for the happiness proper to every human being, a happi-ness that is to be sought and pursued. For us Christians, all hu-man life is an itinerant journey towards our heavenly homeland.

- Address to Participants in the International Forum on “Migration and Peace” Tuesday, 21 February 2017 Clementine Hall

MINISTRY OF HOSPITALITY. Those who are interested in the Ministry of Hospi-tality to welcome visitors and parishioners to our doors at Sunday Mass are asked to con-tact Father O’Connor for more information. This ministry is a result of the Parish Assembly and pa-rishioners’ desire to make Incarnation a more welcoming place.

FIRST PENANCE. Our parish children will receive first Penance on Saturday, March 18 at 11AM. Please keep them and their families in your prayers as they mark this milestone of God’s Mercy. Please feel free to join them in church for this celebration.

PENANCE. Confessions are heard every Saturday in the church from 4-4:45PM and any time in the rectory with an appointment.

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know our-selves. You know the cares and sufferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us from you. Heal us from every form of sin and violence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love, freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice. We believe you are doing something new, calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life. Amen.
