La Conferenza di presentazione di questa donazione confermaancora una volta il tradizionale metodo di alimentazione, con atti

privati di liberalità, delle raccolte di storia della medicina che negliultimi due secoli hanno contribuito alla costituzione del Museo dellaScuola Grande di San Marco. Il valore straordinario di quesa donazione deve essere sottolineato perdue fondamentali aspetti: per la prima volta viene musealmentedocumentato il ruolo precusore della medicina veneziana, grazie al prof.Umberto Saraval, nel campo dell'implantologia orale; il contributo diistituzioni donatrici straniere, accanto ad organismi italiani.La nuova esposizione mostrerà le riviste scientifiche diodontostomatologia redatte e dirette nel primo dopoguerra dal prof.Saraval, primario stomatologo dell'Ospedale Civile di Venezia, nellequali furono pubblicati i primi articoli su procedure ripetibili diimplantologia orale. Ma saranno esposti anche numerosi repertioriginali di impianti orali italiani e stranieri risalenti al periodo 1940-1970.Il materiale proviene da New York per l'American Academy ofImplant Prosthodontics, dall'Italia per l'Associazione NazionaleDentisti Italiani, il Nuovo Gruppo Italiano Studi Implantari, laSocietà Italiana di Storia dell’Odontostomatologia.Il Museo di storia della medicina di Venezia aggiunge cosìun'ulteriore sezione alla sua già ricca consistenza.

The conference presenting this donation confirms once again thetraditional method of receiving historic gifts from private acts of

donation of collections of medical history that during the past twocenturies have contributed to the establishment of the museum of theScuola Grande di San Marco. The extraordinary value of this donation must be emphasized for thefollowing reasons: for the first time the pioneering role of Venetianmedicine in the field of oral implantology is documented, thanks toProfessor Umberto Saraval, and the contribution of foreign donorinstitutions alongside Italian organizations.The new exhibition will display the scientific magazines ofodontostomatology edited and directed by the primary stomatologist ofthe civil hospital of Venice, professor Saraval, during the first post-warperiod, in which the early articles on oral implantology procedures werepublished. Numerous original exhibits of Italian and American oralimplants dating back to the period 1940-1970 will also be exhibited.The material comes from New York thanks to the American Academy ofImplant Prosthodontics (AAIP), from Italy thanks to the NationalAssociation of Italian Dentists (ANDI), the new Italian Implant StudiesGroup (Nuovogisi), and the Italian society of History ofOdontostomatology (SISOS).The museum of medical history thus adds another section to its alreadyrich collection.
