INAUGURATION OF “CONFERENCE HALL” AT SU: MAHARASHTRA, PUNE
N. Kutumba Rao, Director General, Geological Survey of India inaugurated renovated
Conference Hall, at GSI, Pune, named after Late Shri D.T. Kamble, an eminent Engineering
Geologist, on 04.10.2017, in the presence of S. N. Meshram, Addl. Director General, NM-II &
Addl. charge HoD, CR, M. M. Powar, Dy. Director General SU, Maharashtra, retired and serving
Officers & Staff of SU Maharashtra. Family members of Late Sh D.T. Kamble have graced the
occasion.
A. K. Singh, Director & HoO, Pune, welcomed all the participants. M. M. Powar, Dy.
Director General, SU Maharashtra presented biodata of Late Kamble and his contributions
to GSI. It is informed that Late D.T. Kamble served GSI between 1977 and 2007. He was
associated with several important geological investigations in NER, Western Maharashtra
and MP. Earthquake studies at Latur and Bhuj was a memorable work by him. Sh. Kamble
reported the susceptibility of the Latur area in his report much before the occurrence of the
earthquake. In recognition of his services Govt of India and Maharashtra State declared him
as the Nodal Officer to monitor landslide investigations in the states of Maharashtra and the
erstwhile Madhya Pradesh, for the period from 2004 to 2007. Shri D.T. Kamble passed
away on 06th September 2007 due to failure of both of his kidneys while serving as Director
(Selection Grade) in GSI, SUM, Pune. He thanked M. Raju, Director General(Retd.) for
approving the proposal.
N. Kutumba Rao, complimented M.M. Powar for creating the conference hall facility
and aptly naming of the same after Late D.T. Kamble, for his dedication to the department
and his profession. S. N. Meshram appreciated the efforts made by DDG, SUM and paid rich
tributes to Late Shri D. T. Kamble for his services to GSI and nation. Many retired officers of
GSI shared their memories of association with Late D.T. Kamble.
DG, GSI while interacting with serving officers in the presence of superannuated
officers complimented the later for their commitment and rich contributions to GSI and
requested the later to continue their guidance to the younger generation of GSI. He
advised DDG, SUM, to nurture the linkage between the two generations tapping the
lifetime experience of the retired officers. DG, GSI informed the demands of Govt. and the
efforts need to be made by GSI to bridge the gap between the demand and delivery by GSI
by inviting necessary changes in the working culture. He advised the young officers to
take up the challenges through commitment, dedication and conceptual approach for
targeting new mineral deposits. He reminded on the rigorous field work done by the old
generation of Geologists that led to discovery of rich mineral deposits and the need to
bring back the glory of GSI.
