The inaugural ceremony of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) celebrated on 12th Jan 2018 at
Indian Institute Information Technology (IIITN) Nagpur along with tradionla day celebration. The
dignitaries, Shree Kailas Dakhale (In-registrar), Dr. Aatish Daryapurkar (Student Affair Council In-
charge and Nodal officer of EBSB), Dr. Ankit Bhurane (Faculty) and Dr. Anuradha Singh (Faculty)
were present on the dais. The event was anchored by student Ms. Hima Bindu.
Dr Aatish Daryapurkar gave a brief speech regarding the EBSB program. He mentioned that Ek
Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) has been one of the major flagship programs of the Government
to bring in cultural integration of the country as a part of the vision to build a “New India by
2022”. The MHRD is the coordinating Ministry for these activities under EBSB. In this scheme,
they have coupled one state to others to celebrate the culture of each other. So, Maharashtra is
coupled with the state of Odisha it means, Odisha culture will be celebrated by Maharashtra and
Maharashtra culture will be celebrated by Odisha. However, this theme is not limited only with
two paired states. Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat has very wide vision. The purpose of the celebration
is,
i. To CELEBRATE the Unity in Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the
fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of our Country.
ii. To PROMOTE the spirit of national integration through a deep and structured
engagement between all Indian States
iii. To SHOWCASE the rich heritage and culture, customs and traditions of either State for
enabling people to understand and appreciate the diversity that is India, thus fostering a sense
of common identity
iv. TO ESTABLISH long-term engagements and,
v. TO CREATE an environment which promotes learning between States by sharing best
practices and experiences.
Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat was announced by Hon'ble Prime Minister on 31st October, 2015 on
the occasion of the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Through this innovative
measure, the knowledge of the culture, traditions and practices of different states & UTs will lead
to an enhanced understanding and bonding between the states, thereby strengthening the unity
and integrity of India. Our priminister said, he quoteed “Sardar Patel gave us Ek Bharat, it is now
solemn duty of 125 crore Indians to collectively make Shreshta Bharat”
India’s vibrant and rich Culture makes India ‘Ek Bharat’ and ‘Shreshtha Bharat’. Culture is the way
we Indians live together and remain united. Our Culture is our identity – locally, nationally and
globally and we need to regularly celebrate our local culture and cultural acumen and its interface
with other cultural spheres around us in any of its manifestations. The IIIT Nagpur has been strong
bastions of cultural integration in the country having students from almost across all states like
all IITs, NITs and other IIITs.
As per the order of MHRD, Maharashtra state is coupled with Odisha, so we gave an essence of
tradition of Odisha to this traditional day. Then a student Master Bhaibhav Agarwal gave a speech
related to the culture and history of Odissa, giving the students a better idea of people living in
the state .
Then Mrs. Zeba Sheikh (Faculty) gave a message, how our India is diverse yet united by love and
tradition. The speech was then presided by a quiz for the students about the culture and
traditions of different states and prizes were distributed to those who gave the correct answer.
Then Dr. Anuradha Singh gave a speech on Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and National Youth Day.
She appreciated the work done by Swami Vivekananda and importance of celebration of National
Youth Day in her speech.
The traditional day was also celebrated with great enthusiasm in IIIT Nagpur by all faculty, non -
teaching staff and students. This day is celebrated to integrate our modern youth with our
historical and glorious culture.
The event also included a dress competition for the best traditional dress, and the prices were
distributed to those who were well dressed and matched all the criterias for a perfect traditional
dress. Students explain the importance of their respective culture and dress that they wore.

Odisha and colorful nature of India, and the program concluded with national Anthem. The
