Coming in August: The Wonder Box!
God is everywhere and in everything!
During the Sundays in August, children at the
8:30 and 11:00 worship services are going to
be invited to take turns taking home “The
Wonder Box”. They can decide what they want to put in the box to
bring forward for Children’s Time the following Sunday. The pastors
will open The Wonder Box and Children’s Time will be based on
whatever is in the box.
There are only 2 restrictions to what the children put in The Won-
der Box: nothing dead and nothing alive. (Guidelines are courtesy
of years of experience with The Wonder Box!) Wonder Boxes (one
for each service) have been offered at the worship services Sunday,
July 30. Wonder Box children’s times began Sunday, August 6.
What joy we will have in seeing God in The Wonder Box!
The Outreach Committee is asking that the congregation be in prayer for the Room In the Inn ministry at Mt. Zion. After several years of tireless effort, Lisa Strom is stepping down as the coordi-nator of this ministry. We are looking for one or more people with a heart for this ministry to step in the coordinator role so that our church can continue helping our homeless neighbors in the cold (yes, it will one day be cold again as hard as that is to imagine now) of the winter. Please contact Joel Simpson ([email protected] ), Patti Keener ([email protected] ), or Dora Klaus ([email protected] ) for more information or to express interest. Thank you for your prayers!

A Canadian Rockies adult summer trip is set for July 16 - 29, 2018. This is an awesome, 14 day, escorted motorcoach/fly adventure visiting the following Canadian National Parks: Banff (a UNESCO site), Jasper, Waterton Lakes (Peace Park UNESCO site) plus Glacier National Park in Montana. The cities on our journey include: Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler (an alpine Olympic Village), Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise, Waterton and Calgary. Special points of interest in-clude the Chihuly Gardens, Seattle Space Needle, Butchart Gardens, Lake Louise, an Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier, gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff, and the glittering Andromeda Galaxy, the length of the Milky Way! As we travel on such roads as the ‘Going-to-the-Sun’ road and the Icefields Parkway, we will see gla-
ciers and glacier lakes, ice fields, magnificent waterfalls, stun-ning views and quaint cities. The price is approx. $3,000 per person double occupancy land only. 5% discount if pay by
check. A passport is required.
If you are interested in this trip, please contact Dora Dalmas at
704-737-4859 or at [email protected]

My name is Noah Combs. I am a Life Scout in Troop 10 at Mt. Zion UMC. I am currently working on raising funds
for my Eagle Project. I will be moving the Prayer Labyrinth from behind the Youth House to just off the Outdoor
Chapel Trail on the church grounds. I will also construct benches which will include plaques “In Honor of” or “In
Memory of”. I plan to start the project late August and complete in September. If you would be interested in
purchasing a plaque for $25, please fill out the information below. I will be taking orders at the Church on August
20th. You may also drop off orders at the church office. Donations for my project will also be appreciated.
If you have any questions, please contact me at noah.e.combs@gmail or 704-651-6918.
Thank you for your support!

Please make checks payable to BSA Troop 10 with “NC Eagle Project” in the memo line.

The Backpack MinistryBackpack MinistryBackpack MinistryBackpack Ministry will soon begin our 4th year sponsoring local children at JV Washam Elementary School. This ministry provides weekend meals for children who rely on the school meal program Monday through Friday, but are at risk of being hungry on Saturday, Sunday and during a school break. Initially, the Backpack Minis-Backpack Minis-Backpack Minis-Backpack Minis-try try try try provided 7 children with backpacks filled with non-perishable food items. Each year, the need has increased and this past school year, 20 students were assisted by this missions outreach program at
Mt. Zion UMC.
