Birth of Genesis Brand: Human-Centered Luxury

As we reported in our last issue, Hyundai Motor has introduced an all-new global luxury brand that will deliver refined performance, athletic elegance in design, as well as the highest standards of performance, design and innovation.

The goal of the Genesis brand is to create a new definition of luxury. By anticipating human needs at every touch point, these new Genesis models will embody four key aspects: Human-focused innovation, refined and balanced performance, athletic elegance in design, and hassle-free customer experience. The goal is to launch six new Genesis models by 2020; these models will compete with the world’s most renowned luxury car brands.

“We have created this new Genesis brand with a complete focus on our customers who want smart ownership experiences that save time and effort, with practical innovations that enhance satisfaction,” said Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor Company Vice Chairman.

To elevate and differentiate the Genesis brand from Hyundai, a distinct design identity, emblem, naming structure and customer service offering is being established. Genesis models will be badged with a new wing-type emblem (shown above), which is redesigned from the version that is used on the current Genesis Sedan model—this new emblem will create an even more luxurious look for these new models.

The Genesis brand will also adopt a new alphanumeric naming structure. Future models will be named by combining the letter ‘G’ for Genesis with a number, 90, 80 or 70, etc., representing the segment.

This is an exciting time and these new Genesis vehicles—like the all-new G90 that is previewed in this issue—will provide today’s drivers with a vehicle and ownership experience that is second to none.

New G90 Already Winning Awards

Only a few weeks after it was unveiled, the all-new Genesis G90 large luxury sedan earned a prestigious accolade at the 2015 GOOD DESIGN Awards. The annual awards are conferred by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, in recognition of the world’s most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs.

Genesis Sedan Awards The 2016 Genesis earned the “Best

Buy” award from Consumer Guide® Automotive in the large car segment.

With added strenuous criteria in one of the industry’s already rigorous testing of vehicle safety, the 2016 Genesis earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.

Hyundai’s Involvement in PGA Golf Tournaments

Hyundai and golf are a perfect fit—by sponsoring and participating in various events, it raises awareness about our premium models, as well as letting the fans take a closer look at our vehicles while they are at the event.

This year marked the sixth year as title sponsor of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Maui, Hawaii.

In addition, in recent years, Hyundai has created the Hyundai Invitational—as part of this tournament series, Hyundai partners with 50 well-established charity tournaments around the country. Two winners from each tournament ultimately compete at the Hyundai Invitational National Final in Las Vegas with a chance to win a trip to the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Hyundai is also a sponsor at the CareerBuilder Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation. This event is held at PGA West in La Quinta, California. The tournament is now in its 57th year. It was played January 18-24 and was won by Jason Dufner.

The third PGA event was the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, January 28-31.

At these events, various Genesis and Equus models are on display in the Hyundai Fan Zone, as well as being displayed along the course.

Exposure at these three prestigious PGA events raises awareness while creating interest in our premium models.

Hyundai to Sponsor PGA Event in Los Angeles in 2017

Starting in 2017, Hyundai will be the new title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s long-standing tournament at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. “During the past six years, we’ve continued to expand our relationship with the game of golf and there is no better tournament for us to be associated with. We can’t wait to showcase Hyundai vehicles to the millions of Los Angeles golf fans and those watching on TV and, most importantly, continuing the event’s long history of charitable activities,” said Dave Zuchowski, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor America.

Fleet Switches to GenesisArrow Limousine Worldwide has been in business in Red

Bank, New Jersey, since 1960. In late 2014, Arrow started replacing their aging fleet of Town Cars and purchased a 2015 Genesis from Circle Hyundai in Shrewsbury, NJ. Here’s what Arrow’s President, Eddie Somers, had to say about the switch: “After months and months of trying out multiple makes and models of sedans to replace the Town Cars in our fleet, we finally settled on the Genesis. We started out with one sedan, and after rave reviews from our clients, we added a second Genesis. We now have 45 Genesis sedans that make up 75% of our sedan fleet. The ultra-smooth ride and safety features are the main attraction in the Genesis, according to most of our clients.”

Elyria Hyundai Sponsors L’Amour Du Vin

One of the more prestigious fund-raising events in Northeastern Ohio is the annual L’Amour Du Vin, and Elyria Hyundai was the Official Parking Valet Sponsor.

With this exposure, as participants dropped off their vehicle at the valet, they had a chance to take a look at the Genesis and Equus that were on display. This was a great way to support a local charity while exposing our premium models to new potential customers.

Genesis at Houston AirportThe Houston area Hyundai dealers got together and

did something novel—they placed a Genesis in the Houston Hobby Airport over the holiday season. This eye-catching display got a lot of exposure … and as you’ll notice, it tied in with Hyundai’s NFL sponsorship, making this a win-win promotion.

Genesis G90: Luxury Flagship The all-new G90 premium luxury sedan is the first model

for the Genesis brand in the U.S. market. It will compete at the top of the premium luxury car segment with world-class technological innovations and the highest levels of refinement, convenience and dynamic performance.

Created by the new Prestige Design Group, G90 is the epitome of the brand’s ‘Athletic Elegance’ design identity. The lines are powerful and refined, with a prominent hood, generous wheelbase, minimized overhangs and sophisticated rear deck surfacing. Inside, fine materials and textures from around the world meet refined ergonomics to provide occupants with absolute convenience and luxurious comfort.

It took four years and more than 800 workers to create the G90. As a result, every detail of the interior has been crafted to enhance the passengers’ sense of luxury.

The G90 features GENESIS SMART SENSE, a suite of driver safety technologies that cover the full spectrum of active and passive safety, from driver alertness and focus to total occupant safety, and even the safety of other drivers around you. This suite brings together systems such as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Start, Smart Blind Spot Detection and Lane Keep Assist.

When you get behind the wheel of a G90, you can feel the difference. That’s because advanced ergonomic analysis was used to carefully position driver controls plus passenger comfort and entertainment features. For optimized comfort, G90 offers an impressive 22-way power driver seat.

Once on the road, G90 owners will immediately notice the highest standards of refined performance. These characteristics are central to the Genesis brand, with development teams carrying out rigorous performance testing at the company’s European Technical Center at the Nürburgring in Germany and the California Proving Grounds in the Mojave Desert. Even with this sporty and responsive character, the G90 interior environment remains well-mannered. G90 powertrain options include an all-new 3.3-liter direct-injected, twin-turbocharged V-6 or the award-winning Tau 5.0-liter direct-injected V-8 for ultimate power!
