WOMEN From analysing different music magazines I

found that women appear in 2 different ways; either angelic or sexualised. However in both ways they still use very attractive women to appeal to men and women.

The reason women will appear Angelic is because this will appeal to both men and women. This way will appeal to men because the women will still be beautiful and very attractive so most men will like it. Women looking angelic would appeal to other women because the women will want to be them and will adore them.

The main reason the magazine will decide to make the women look very sexual is because it will massively appeal to men. Most men will like the Q magazine more than the billboard magazine because although they are both very attractive women the men will like the fact that she is soaking wet and biting her finger

Angelic?

Sexual?

MEN Likewise to female, male representations,

from my research, come in two different groups of either playful or Scary/’hard’. Most of the research I conducted found imagery similar to these two examples of XXL and Rolling Stone.

I believe that XXL chose to make A$AP Rocky look like a gangster or a thug because it makes him look more tough and scary. By doing this it would maybe make the magazine to appeal to people from the ‘ghettos’ in America, which would widen their audience.

Rolling Stone decided to have Wiz Khalifa winking because it makes him look younger and more playful unlike A$AP Rocky on the XXL cover. This may appeal to female readers because younger and nicer than A$AP Rocky.

Scary or ‘hard’?

Playful?

AGE With age people who are older seem to look

more sophisticated and elegant and people who are younger look more energetic and cool. To prove my point I researched magazine front covers of Q and Rolling Stone.

In the rolling stone front cover we have young and new on the music scene rapper Macklemore. As you can see he is sort of smiling and wearing a vest and looking very casual and laid back in general. This issue would be very popular with today’s younger rap fans because Macklemore has become a big Hip Hop star recently.

Whereas, with Q they have used an old photo of john Lennon looking very smart and sophisticated. He is also looking very serious and ahs a very straight face and is dressed very smartly. This particular issue would be very popular with older readers because John Lennon was very big musical icon back in the 60s all the way through to the 80s and has had a massive impact on quite a lot of peoples lives Old?

Young?
