I was invited to make a presentation at the 7 National Quality Conclave, organisedby Quality Council of India at New Delhi, where I got an opportunity to interact withvarious Quality experts, Government policy-makers and other stakeholders. TheSchool will be hosting the 4 Convocation on 10 November, 2012.

In our endeavour to make PGSTE an industry-focusedacademic institute, we have continued our efforts toengage with various industries of the region throughour Training & Consulting programmes, focused onOperational Excellence, helping organisationsbecome more competitive. Our B. Tech. students ofthe final semester have undertaken 39 Major Projectsin their respective organizations, which have resultedin a combined annual saving of Rs. 747 lacs.

The 8 North-West QualTech (NWQT) Convention was held on 11 May 2012 at CII, Chandigarh. During the day-longConvention, 21 teams from leading corporates of the region, who were short-listed after a rigorous selection,competed for the NWQT Awards. Over 240 teams from leading companies have competed for these awards sincetheir inception.

CEO made a thought provokingpresentation during the ConcurrentSession on “Quality in Education” atthe 7 National Quality Conclaveorganized by Quality Council of Indiaon 27 & 28 April, 2012 at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi. Thepresentation focused on applicationof Total Quality Management forimproving the quality of highertechnical education in India. The 2-day Conclave, whose theme was,“Improving Quality of PublicServices: The Role of Public & PrivateSectors”, was attended by over 800delegates from all over the country.

Certification Programmes
1. 4 Six Sigma Black Belt programme completedth
The fourth batch of certified Six Sigma Black Belt commenced inNov 2011 and concluded on 24 March, 2012. It was anchored byour own Six Sigma Black Belt faculty. 15 executives both frommanufacturing and service industries, participated in theprogramme. Estimated savings from the eight improvementprojects, undertaken by the participants in their respectiveorganisations, exceed Rs. 72 lac.

A 3-day certified Six Sigma Green Belt programme wasorganised in April 2012 for alumni of the School. Theprogramme was anchored by Naresh Chawla, School’s own SixSigma Master Black Belt faculty.

1. Management Development Programme
3 batch of Management Development Programme (MDP) was startedfor KDDL (formerly Kamla Dials & Devices Ltd.) on 13 February 2012 andconcluded on 22 April 2012. Apart from the modules on qualitymanagement, lean manufacturing, industrial engineering and behaviouralskills, this time, modules on finance and marketing were also included inthe curriculum. During the course of this MDP, the participants undertookimprovement projects for improving productivity and strengthening thesystems of their respective units.

a) Programme for Improving employee participation through problem solving at Winsome Knitwear, Mohali fromNov 2011 to April 2012.

c) Programme on 5S Training & Audit at Claas India, Morinda.
d) Programme for Improving Productivity & Layout Design at Metlonics, Mohali.

Tech course and I decided to attend one class. This day became theturning point of my career. This course provided the platform where wediscussed our work related problems with expert Faculty of the Schoolcomprising professionals from top rated industries and faculty of repute.It is actually awesome to attend the classes where we get classmates fromdifferent sectors and the discussion amongst us facilitates our learningprocess. I have been a topper in all the 3 semesters. I have also achievedmuch success and recognition in my job career by implementing varioustechniques learned in this course till now.

This course brought a change in my thinking pattern and motivated me to jumpstart my career as an“Entrepreneur”. Recently, I started my own venture in the name of Sehaj Solutions (Engg.) to provide variousengineering solutions. "Sehaj Solutions" is linked with Foreign and Indian companies for their new projectdevelopments, quality & delivery improvements in existing business and finding out economical solutions totheir queries. Once again my heartfelt thanks to the School's Management for designing such a fantasticapplication based course for working diploma holders and my further travel to the path of success entirely goesto my alma mater….

For the past eight years, North-West QualTech (NWQT) Convention has been aplatform for recognition of team excellence in quality. NWQT Awards are atribute to the efforts of the middle management in an organisation's pursuit forexcellence. The awards, instituted by PTU's Gian Jyoti School of TQM &Entrepreneurship in 2004, are presented after a rigorous process of evaluationto improvement teams that are recognised as best-in-class.
The 9 NWQT Convention will be held on 8 March 2013. Competition is opento both Manufacturing and Service sectors.
