PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hi All, We have just got home from a fantastic 2016 National rally at Lardner Park. The rally committee did a fabulous job and we ate some great food, saw fantastic views, drove on some little known roads with plenty of surprises and experienced weather that only Victoria can offer. A big thank you to the rally committee for all their efforts over the last four years. It was certainly a stand out event. The next rally will be in Maryborough Queensland in 2019 and people are already booking in. This was the fourth rally that Victoria has run and we have certainly been to lots of rallies in other states since 1980. I’m sure that members have lots of photos, videos, film and memorabilia of these rallies and other club events. The committee has approved expenditure for the archiving of these items. It is imperative that we are able to archive this material before it deteriorates, is lost or thrown away. As we are approaching our fortieth year in 2020 it would be great to have an archive to help show what this club has achieved in furthering our hobby and passion for Model T Fords. It is also a great way to have a laugh at the clothes and hairstyles and wonder “what were we thinking when we wore that?” Please contact Chris Dillon with anything that you have to share. We still do not have anyone to run the March Labour day rally in 2017. If we have no volunteers by the end of the October there will be no rally. We will give the rally director lots of direction and support to do this job. A reminder that we still need volunteers to man the club sites at Bendigo Swap in November. Please let Geoff Brooke know if you can help. We have the Swap meet at Dillons Motors coming up this month and a run to Como Gardens in The Basin to see George Hetrel’s car collection to raise money for charity. We will be going with other Ford flathead clubs. It is a great day and a chance to see the beautiful gardens and display of cars and trains. Well I’m off to unpack after the rally. See you at the next meeting. Fiona

THANKYOU

Marg and Lyle wish to express our thanks to the many Club Members who contacted us by mail,

METCALFE TRACTOR PULL

Despite the inclement weather forecast, Shirley and I drove to Metcalfe for their annual Vintage

tractor pull and wood chop. As we approached the reserve we were thrilled to see a hive of

activity with lots of people already watching the tractor, wood chopping and speed chainsaw

events. This event always has a great atmosphere, it's like stepping back in time to the old country fairs with

the PA loud speakers promoting activities, the tempting smells of a great variety of food being

cooked, the roar of vintage tractors and the whine of the speed chainsaws. The old Bulldog tractors

always command attention with their familiar echo of Pop- Pop- Pop.

The Girvan family are always very involved with this community fund raiser, Frances was taking

care of the tractor completion results, Neil operating the weight sledge for the tractors to pull, sons Len and Rod on tractors and Grandson Troy

watching everything with great interest. The Bendigo and Kyneton car clubs formed an interesting car display, but due to the very wet

conditions this display was not as large as previous years.

We certainly had a very enjoyable time and assure everyone " It's well worth a visit "

POLICY FOR CLUB PERMITTED VEHICLES

The M.T.F.C.V. has introduced a policy (with limitations) for members, to enable them to place their col-lectable/historic cars other than Model “T’s” on the M.T.F.C.V. permit system. To ensure we do not lose

sight of the Club’s objectives, the following criteria must be met:

a). The member must have been a continuous financial member of the M.T.F.C.V. for a minimum of 2 years. Although it is preferable that the Member own a Model T, it is not compulsory and this is to allow those members that will never be able to own a Model T to still enjoy the benefits of the club. b). It will be up to the owner to ensure the safety of the vehicle/s on the roads. This can be achieved by either: 1). A road worthy certificate inspection. (This is a VicRoads requirement for post 1948 vehicles.) 2). An inspection by one of the Club’s safety officers, following agreement for commercial terms of payment if requested. c). If at any time the committee believes a member is abusing the intent of this policy, the permit/renewal will be refused. The Committee do not have to state their reasons for such refusal. d). Members with vehicles of any type permitted under the MTFCV, must remain financial members of the club at all times. Financial membership of the club is due by the opening of the Annual General Meeting. Fees are payable by the August meeting or the membership deemed to have lapsed. e) The week following the August meeting, the Secretary is to reconcile financial membership with the Treasurer and then complete a report to Vic roads detailing any permitted members that have NOT renewed their membership, as required under the Vic roads Permit scheme contract, signed on behalf of the club by the Secretary in January 2015. f) A letter authorizing the Member to apply for a permit issued by the Secretary is required even though this is not a Vic roads requirement. This has been retained to ensure the Secretary is able to accurately maintain the permitted vehicles register and follow up with members to collate final permit details once a permit is issued by Vic roads. We must be mindful that in adopting this policy, we do not stray from the Club’s grassroots aims (i.e. to help in the restoration of Model T’s, to create a register of Model T owners, and to drive and enjoy these vehicles). The Committee is mindful that adoption of such policies could be abused by the minority, and will closely monitor this policy to ensure that this does not happen. Condition A was modified by the Committee in 2011 to accommodate the request of some long standing and very supportive members of the club. It was agreed that some members will never be able to own Model T’s, but should be involved in Club activities in vehicles more suitable to their specific needs. Other permit conditions outlined above must still be met. These rules may be varied or superseded by changes in the VicRoads Red Plate Permit Scheme rule.

Tour 1 Heritage Day Sunday 25th September 2016 Sunday morning early we awoke to the unique sounds of T Models firing up for the days run. Much excitement and anticipation as today is the first official run of the week, travelling through glorious country side, seven shades of vivid green, as green as Ireland, dotted with the many dairy cattle and other farm animals. We very soon realised that we were in dairy country as we watched with admiration the great long lines of patient black and white cows, waiting patiently for their turn in the milking shed. Our favourite yoghurt comes from Gippsland, so thanks girls. Weather was fine, cool but nothing that would prevent 100 plus wonderfully and lovingly restored Model T Fords from venturing out of the giant storage shed, ready to travel 110 kilometres through picturesque Gippsland Victoria. Directions given, travel notes read, the hardy little vehicles ventured forth. Turning left from Lardner Park, heading for Coal Creek Heritage Village in Korumburra. The roads and lanes travelled offered great photo opportunities, there was very little modern traffic to worry us and much time was taken glimpsing the fabulous rural life in Eastern Victoria. Arriving at Coal Creek, the colourful T’s added charm and character to the narrow lanes lined with well preserved historic buildings and relics. This gave us a snapshot of what life would have been like in by gone years, and the hard work required by many who braved the conditions of the coal mines many years ago. Many of the car owners wore well designed period costumes which certainly added to the charm and spectacle of the day. Lunch was provided on time, hot and delicious with a choice of three toppings. This was followed by ice creams and hot coffee or tea and even when short bursts of rain scattered the members occasionally, they quickly returned and enjoyed the afternoon of sightseeing unperturbed. Five kilometres of gravel road on the way back raised a couple of eyebrows, but the plucky T’s took it all in their stride and never missed a beat. A little rain fell on the way home, but again the scenery was breathtaking, and the well placed signs at the corners greatly aided the navigators. Thanks for that. A grand day out, The Coal Creek Heritage Village features on the front and back cover of the tour guide a few minutes studying the covers will provide many memories. Page 9 MODEL T TORQUE OCTOBER 2016

Tour 1 Heritage Day Sunday 25th September 2016 Sunday was Heritage day and off we headed round 7.30a.m from Lardner Park on our 54km journey to Coal Creek in our T Models. Along the way, we travelled on rural roads and through rolling hills, taking in all of the scenic views surrounding some of the best dairy farming country in Victoria. We had a stop at Poowong for morning tea and had a much appreciated hot coffee & cake at the Cake & Take away restaurant. After a restroom stop, we were on the move to our destination Heritage Village at Coal Creek in Korumburra. Upon our arrival, we were directed into parking inside the Village by Coal Creek & tour representatives. Heritage Village is full of character and history and with all our T's parked throughout and all of us dressed in Period clothing, we blended into the unique atmosphere in which other visitors seem to appreciate. We went for a stroll around the Village, popping into the church, observing the blacksmith, browsed the General store and purchased some GOOD OLD FASHIONED HOME MADE BARLEY SUGAR. There was such an old world presence in the setting of the old buildings. So much to see. For our lunch we were served a HOT BAKED POTATO & GOURMET additions and it was SIMPLY DELICIOUS. It was time to depart the Village and head back to Lardner Park taking in more fabulous views on our 55.9km run. When John went to start his T,he thought that someone had tampered with it, that not being the case at all. It turned out that a backfire created the timer to go out of place. APOLOGIES are in order. We would like to take the opportunity in thanking the Committee and all involved, for the TIME & EFFORT that went into making our SEA MOUNTAINS & VALLEY T TOUR, something to be SO PROUD of and SO ENJOYABLE. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS AND APPRECIATIONS, we had a TRULY AMAZING FABULOUS TIME. Regards The Huitts. John, Thelma, Noel & Rhonda

SEA, MOUNTAINS & VALLEYS TOUR T 2016

2016 National Rally – “Sea That” Tour 3 Tuesday 27th September

Going in to pick up our snack packs (what a great idea they were!) I checked with Robbie Dalton to see if he needed us to take any passengers. He was telling a very disappointed Kathleen, from The States, that a ride hadn’t been organised for her so we were able to offer her a seat in the Centredor, which was gratefully accepted. Kathleen was on the last day of the tour as her husband was unwell and they were returning home the next day. We set off, snug and cosy, heading towards Poowong. Kathleen may have thought we were joking when we told her about the giant worms in the region! The countryside was lush and the views superb. At Loch, we stopped for a very welcome morning tea and toilet break then took a walk along the street, looking in the shops. Knowing we had a steep climb to leave the town we were the first to depart and were glad to not be behind others when we came across road works, stop signs and all. We stopped, briefly, at the lookout to admire the panoramic view before continuing on, choosing to stay in the car and not get windswept out of the car. Travelling along the Loch-Wonthaggi Road, Graeme decided to take a detour when he spotted the sign to Kernot. We turned into a narrow, winding road that took us downhill to visit friends in Kernot and a delighted Kathleen got to see a different part of the hills and meet some other ‘Aussies’ who made her very welcome. Along the way we passed a farm, and had to stop while the farmer moved some cows along the road. There was probably every piece of farm equipment ever bought lying about the yards and we mean everything! A scrap metal paradise! After visiting our friends we went to look at the Candowie Dam, which supplies our water in San Remo and on Phillip Island, then turned around and got back on track. Kathleen’s greatest wish on the rally was to see the sea and once we started along the coastal road she was in raptures with every glimpse of the ocean. We took her into Shack Bay and walked down to the beach. There was just us and a fellow further along playing bongo drums. A magical experience. From there to Eagles Nest and another walk to look out over the view. We made our lunch stop at the boat ramp and watched the activity in Anderson’s Inlet and the seagulls begging for food. Kathleen took many photos here and at our other stops to remind her of her visit to the sea. Leaving Inverloch we travelled towards Kongwak where other friends were sitting at the roadside watching the Ts go by. We stopped there and chatted for awhile, also enjoying watching the cars go past. The rain started again so we clambered back on board and set off on the last part of the day’s trip, travelling again through the lush, green, hilly countryside through Bena and Poowong and back to Lard-ner Park. Despite the rain and cool weather it was a great day of rallying. We enjoyed Kathleen’s company, the lovely views through the hills and along the coast and going off the beaten track. The T didn’t miss a beat and kept us warm and dry all day. Thank you, David Baud, for organising this day’s rally and a HUGE thank you to all the Rally Committee for the great job you did to make the rally so successful. We enjoyed every minute of it! “Sea That” Tour 3 Tuesday 27th September We traveled south to the ocean about 100 miles round trip with John & Shirley Morrison in their 1925

Tourer. Leaving the host location (Lardner Park in Warragul) for a “tea break” in Loch and our lunch at Inverloch by the sea. Cool but no rain until we were heading back to Lardner Park.

As Jim has mentioned they joined us for our Sea That tour on Tues 27th.We started south along some great country roads winding up hill with spectacular veiws. Many dairy farms line these roads ,which made

for very pleasant and enjoyable country roads ideal for T cruising. Morning tea was enjoyed at Loch, with the T refueled we climbed out on Clarence St for more great views.

The 56 km soon passed and the ocean was spotted .What a sight! Lunch at Cape Patterson ,coffee at Inverloch and then home to Lardner Park via

Kongwak and Poowong ,again many nice roads some hills but nothing could take away from the great landscape as far as eye could see!

After 160km round trip we arrived at base to prepare for the next adventure. John and Shirley Morrison Jim and Dorothea Clausan

SEA, MOUNTAINS & VALLEYS TOUR T 2016

Day 4. Tuesday 27th September Woke to yet another dubious weather outlook, however whilst cold the rain held off. Checked the car, loaded up and picked up the snack packs from the hub and off down the now familiar Burnt Store road. (You may think the name came from a burnt store many years ago, well……..) We traveled through some very scenic country to Loch. (Giant earthworm country) It was in Loch we had morning tea followed by a look around town. Back on the road through Wonthaggi (black coal country)where a little further on we had our first views of the ocean, then onto Cape Patterson where we stopped at Eagles Nest car park. A wander down the steps to the beach with a cold on shore wind blowing. Back up to the headland to take in the views of the coastline and had lunch. On to Inverloch and a stroll around town with a look into the shops. Gosh the time slipped by, hardly a “T” in the street. Back to the car and on through Poowong. Had to have an unscheduled pit stop for a chat and photo, when we came across this 1925 Leyland on the side of the road. Back to the car and on to Lardner Park. In all a good trouble free day. After looking at the Leylands construction I think we would be justified in defending the “T” s method of manufacture! Brian and Helen Smith

Games Day at Lardner Park Wednesday 28 th September Wednesday the 28th of September was an excellent day of the rally. It was the rally games day held at

Lardner park. As well as the excellent games that ranged from hurling a conrod as far as either you or your navigator could, to driving an obstacle course blind folded with your navigators directions on an extremely

wet and boggy track, the day had many other things to offer. Outside all day, many enthusiastic entrants and visitors were treated to displays of not only the T’s entered in

the rally but multiple items of interest from the Baw Baw Old Engine & Auto Club. In the Baw Baw Pavilion there were outstanding displays and sale items from Henry's T, A and Hot Rod

Parts, Wild Dog Winery, Shannons Insurance and many more. Entrants also had the opportunity to dress in their period clothing for judging, and the ability to allow family or friends to drive their T Model on a

specially marked test track. The best part of the day for me however, were the excellent games that had been organised by Joss, an international entrant from the USA. As the only red ‘P’ plate driver on the rally, with my best friend

Kodi as my navigator, this added a sense of fun and excitement to the already enjoyable rally, as well as a bit of rivalry with other entrants that we had befriended.

Overall, the day was magnificent with many superb displays, dress ups and activities for all to enjoy. Melanie Ryan, NSW
