Ramadan Kareem!
Bismillah
We, the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, extend our prayers
and good wishes to all for the blessed month of Ramadan. Muslims
consider this month to be special, as it was in this ninth month of
the Islamic calendar that God conveyed the initial message to the
Prophet Mohammad, pbuh. These divinely inspired revelations

resulted in the message of the Quran, which is a guidance for all
humankind.
God asks believers to fast during this month so that we may “learn
restrain and ward off evil”. It is in Ramadan, that we practice our
spirituality, charity and prayers. The month long practice of these
virtues requires discipline and restraint, and the intent is that these
become habitual for the rest of the year.
We believe that one of the lessons of Ramadan is the affirmation of
what it means to be a Muslim, to live together in peace, and not
divide ourselves into sects. For as God says, “This community of
yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so worship me. But
they divided themselves into factions, but to Us they shall all
return”. (21:92)
And again, “Hold fast, all together, to the bond with God, and do not
draw apart from one another…”. (3:103)
This Ramadan, we are saddened by the tragedies of war in so
many of the Muslim majority countries and pray that those who are
killing and maiming will consider the Quranic message of
spirituality, charity and prayers. Most of those who are left
homeless and bereft are fellow Muslims and surely this is not in
keeping with the message of Islam.
Let us all try to live up to these ideals of virtue:
“Virtue does not consist in whether you face towards the East or the
West; virtue means believing in God, the Last Day, the angels, the
Book and the prophets; the virtuous are those who, despite their
love for it, give away their wealth to their relatives and to orphans
and the poor, and to travellers and those who ask for charity, and to
set slaves free, and who attend to their prayers and pay the alms,
and who keep their pledges when they make them, and show
patience in hardship and adversity, and in times of distress, such
are the true believers; and such are the God-fearing”. (2:177)

With the month of Ramadan upon us, CCMW is reaching out to its
supporters and members to donate money for the Lila Fahlman
Scholarships.
Without scholarships and bursaries many Canadian Muslim women
can not afford to complete their education, which can provide them
with a better future for themselves and their families.
CCMW has taken the initiative to reach out to our members and
supporters asking them for a monetary contribution that is later
awarded as scholarships for education.
Our scholarship program and fundraiser has made it possible to
change the lives of many students!
Make your donation now by emailing [email protected] to get more
