Christmas Shoebox Appeal
Following our House assemblies this week, we hope you will support our annual Shoebox Appeal, organised by the Southborough and Pembury satellite club of Tunbridge Wells Rotary. For further information follow this link:
http://www.rotaryshoebox.org/
Through this initiative, children and families in Eastern Europe receive shoeboxes at Christmas. We are looking to collect non- food items, small enough to fit into a shoebox, to send to children, whose only Christmas gift will be the items in the shoebox. There are 3 categories for the shoeboxes:-
• Children from 0 to 7 years old • Children from 8 to 11 years old • Teenagers
There will be a female shoebox and male shoebox for each category and the items that are acceptable to send can include:-
Toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo Stationery, small books, notepads Toys, games (nothing that needs a battery) Gloves, scarves, hats, combs, mirrors Soaps, sponges, flannels, hair decorations Teenage items cosmetics, stationery, games
Items should be new or of good quality, remembering that the recipient will be opening the box in eager anticipation and, especially with toys for the children, quite possibly the first real gifts they have received for a very long time. We hope you will kindly support this Shoebox Appeal and bring in your donations to your child’s class teach-er by Friday November 11th. We will then pass them on to Mr Cornish and members of Rotary Club for col-lection and packing into special boxes. (DO NOT prepare your own shoebox as all donations will be sorted appropriately at the depot). Thank you for your co-operation. The School Council

From previous experience we know Year 1 and 2 boys will be challenged with their shirt buttons, especially the top collar button, and tying their own school tie after half term when winter uniform must be worn. It will be really helpful if you can spend some time over half term practising these skills with your child. Buttons may need to be re-adjusted to leave room for little fingers. (In many cases buttons have been sewn on too tightly.)
May we also ask that you take the opportunity over half term to ensure your child’s hair meets school expectations. A reminder from the Parents Handbook— Hair should be kept tidy and trendy styles avoided please. Girls must use hair clips or bands to keep long hair off the face. These must be plain white, pink or brown in colour and hairbands should be narrow.
Winter weather may be with us from November so please ensure fleece hat, gloves and scarf are clearly named. Thank you for your co-operation. Enjoy half term!
