The Mahwah Regional Chamber OfCommerce has one of the hardestworking Board of Directors in BergenCounty. We are always looking to addactive members to the Board. The se-lection of the Board of Directors isquite simple. Each Director is voted inby the members. The President ap-points a director to head the nominat-ing committee. The nominatingcommittee compiles a list of potentialdirectors and presents them to theBoard for approval. Once the Boardapproves the slate of nominees, theyare sent to the general membership. At this time, any member in goodstanding is welcome to add their nameto the list for consideration, as long asthey meet the criteria – the candidatemust demonstrate prior committeeparticipation or have been an activesupporter of Chamber events, andmust provide 25 supporting membersignatures. The Board of Directorsvotes on the nominated slate of candi-dates during the December Meeting. The term runs for three years, with anoption to run for three terms. The Executive Board is nominatedand voted in by the new Board of Di-rectors during the January Meeting. The President is first elected, fol-
lowed by election of the Senior VicePresident. The President then ap-points a Secretary and the Treasurer. The Executive Director historicallyhas been the Secretary. The Presi-dent’s term will last for one year withan option to run for a second term. The President appoints Vice Presi-dents to chair designated Chambercommittees and they may establishsub-committees to carry out the pur-poses of their committees.
THE CHAMBER BYLAWS COMMITTEEThe Board Operations Committee isnot a very large committee. However,it reviews and makes recommenda-tions to the Board on any changes thatcan be made to the ByLaws that willhelp govern the Chamber and make itrun more efficiently. Susan Lord of Hughes EnvironmentalEngineering, Inc.and 2011 MRCCPresident, is VicePresident of BoardOperations andhas been reelectedto serve for 2013.■

We don’t know yet which teams will be playing innext year’s SuperBowl, but there’s already at leastone sure winner: the business community ofBergen County. On Feb. 2, 2014, SuperBowl XLVIII will beplayed at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands, marking a number of ‘firsts.’ For the first time, two states (New Jersey and New York) will co-host the event, bringing together the resources oftwo powerful business communities to create asuccessful enterprise and a great party. The gameis making its first appearance in the Northeast, and, for the first time in many years, will be playedoutside in a wintry climate. As no hosting hometeam has ever played in a SuperBowl, both the Jetsand the Giants are hoping to add another first tothat list.Under the direction of Rich Petriccione, SeniorVice President of Philanthropy and CommunityRelations, the SuperBowl Host Committee is al-ready hard at work exploring ways to maximizethe value to our region. With the thousands of vis-itors who will flock to the area, and the many an-
cillary activities that surround the event, the gameis expected to generate approximately $550 mil-lion for the local economy. From providing hotelrooms, transportation, entertainment and restau-rant meals during SuperBowl week, to offeringsupport services of all kinds in the months leadingup to the game, Bergen County businesses are in aperfect position to supply what’s needed and reapthe economic benefits. Many of the facilities which will be developed tosupport the game (transportation system improve-ments, for example) will remain in place after-wards to support continued economic growth. There are also many charitable and community-oriented projects planned to benefit the region, and, of course, the enormous national and interna-tional exposure that comes with the game will be areal asset to future development. How can you participate? The Host Committeewill be looking for about 16,000 volunteers to helpensure a successful event, and you’re invited to bepart of it. From a business point of view, plan nowto be ready to take advantage of the many oppor-tunities that will be part of this major nationalevent. Make this your party, too, and you’ll be partof a winning team.To learn more, go to the SuperBowl Host Committee
website at www.nynjsuperbowl.com. ■
