Your Church Council is pleased to welcome The Reverend

Cheryl L. Berner as our Interim Pastor, effective May 1, 2021.

In accordance with ELCA procedure, and with the blessing of

Church Council, Pastor Berner has been appointed by

Bishop Suarez of the FL-Bahama Synod to serve as Interim

Pastor during this time of transition.

The ELCA process of calling a new pastor involves a

thorough development of a Congregational Profile by

Church Council, with input from the congregation, of

what our church has been under previous pastors, and what

we want it to be under a new pastor. Once that Profile is

complete, a Call Committee of church members selected by

Council will interview candidates referred by the

ELCA, and submit a candidate’s name to Council. Council

will review the Committee’s recommendation and

make the recommendation to the congregation.

A congregational meeting will be held, with Synod

assistance, to vote on whether or not to call the prospective

pastor. Typically, the call process takes at least a year.

Pastor Berner moved to Polk County from Pennsylvania

several years ago. After working as a legal secretary in PA

for many years, she returned to college and obtained a

Bachelor of Arts degree at Mansfield University, PA in 1997.

She received her Master of Divinity degree in 2001 at the

Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. Subsequently,

she served as pastor of the Center Township Lutheran Parish

churches in Aliquippa and Monaca, PA; and then at Trinity

Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milton, PA. Since moving to Florida, Pastor Berner served as a

hospital chaplain at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and has been providing worship leader-

ship and pulpit supply for congregations.

Pastor Berner lives next to her daughter and family in Auburndale. Her son and his family live

in Wellsboro, PA. She has four grandsons and loves music, movies, bird-watching, reading,

and spending time with her family.

Since Pastor Berner is serving Lamb of God part-time, she is generally in the office

Tuesday and Thursday mornings; unless she has an evening ministry commitment. In

addition to worship leadership, Pastor Berner is responsible for all baptisms, funerals,

marriages, pastoral care, church administration, and attending Church Council meetings. A

vital part of her Interim role is to help Council work through the transition process, and

prepare the congregation to call a new pastor. Pastor can be reached by

calling the church office at 863-421-2811 or by email at [email protected]

COVID-19 Safeguards Update We are aware that many of you have been vaccinated

and we also are aware that some of you cannot be

vaccinated. In order to maximize protection of

our congregation from the COVID-19 virus, which has been our goal throughout the

pandemic, especially for the most vulnerable in our community, your Church Council is

continuing to keep the implemented safeguards in place. We appreciate the

diligence and patience you as a congregation have exhibited in following our safety

guidelines very much, especially as many jurisdictions open up without restriction. The

Church Council is ever mindful of the situation, and will relax our rules as soon as it believes

it prudent to do so.

Please continue to wear a mask while inside the building, keep your distance from non-family

members, sing softly, extend your hand to receive the host in your palm, and do not

congregate inside the building after the service.

Quinlan’s Corner — You’re Never Too Old to Learn (or Teach)

Do you ever wonder if God really is everywhere? That God really is in

you? Do you wonder what that exactly implies for how you live your

daily life? Pastor John Ortberg’s six-week series: God Is Closer

Than You Think addresses these and other questions in a series of six

Adult Sunday School sessions led by Bill Quinlan, beginning May 30

and continuing through July 4 at 8:45 am. Ortberg is a best-

selling author. The classes will include his talks presented on film,

followed by class discussion. Safety protocols will be in place

during class sessions. If you have rarely, if ever, attended Lamb

of God’s Sunday School classes, maybe this is time for you to get on

the bandwagon. We hope and pray that you will give it a go!

1 Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name; worship the LORD in holy splendor. 3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over mighty waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. 5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.

6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the LORD causes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forest bare; and in his temple all say, "Glory!" 10 The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. 11 May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!

¡Bienvenido Espíritu Santo!

El pasado 23 de Mayo, celebramos el

Domingo de Pentecostés. La celebración de

Pentecostés comenzó con música, los niños

danzando con sombreros alusivos a lenguas

de fuego y streamers. Gran regocijo

espiritual.

Después de la misa hubo una recepción, to-

dos unidos en el Espíritu de Dios. Tuvimos la

grata sorpresa de ser acompañados por

nuestros queridos amigos y hermanos “Elise

y su esposo John,” nuestra ex-directora de

música de Lamb of God!

Que a Dios siempre sea la “Gloria y Honra”

Amén.

On May 23, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday.

The Pentecost celebration began with music,

children dancing with hats alluding to

tongues of fire and streamers. Great spiritual

rejoicing.

After the service there was a reception, all

united in the Spirit of God. We were

pleasantly surprised to be joined by our dear

friends and brothers in Christ "Elise and her

The summer months are almost here and I am beginning to think

that I actually will be able to go to yard sales, flea markets, estate

sales and thrift stores looking for sheets and material to use for quilt

backings, so in your summer travels please join me in this quest to

find sheets and material that we can use for quilt backings.

We have said goodbye to a number of our winter quilters. We wish

them God Speed as they journey back to their homes. Please consider

a cool summer time activity this summer and come and join us. In June we

will meet the first Wednesday (June 2) and third Thursday (June 17). If you have any

questions, please give Laverne Tillson, Quilt Coordination, a call at 863-326-6018 or the

church office. We always say “if you can tie a knot you can quilt”.

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 our sound system was upgraded.

Here is what work was accomplished:

•3 new speakers were installed in the sanctuary

•the sound board was reset and equalized to the new speakers

•all microphones were checked and adjusted for volume and clarity.

•The angle of the center speaker was set while music was played

through it to be sure it’s sound would reach the back pews and the sound booth.

I am happy to say there is great sound coverage though out the sanctuary. There isn’t a

cheap seat in the house! The quality of sound we’ve enjoyed in the vestibule now

continues into the sanctuary.

A final round of soundboard tweaking will be conducted by the installer during the May

30th service at 10:00 am with training of the soundboard operators of both the English

and Spanish services beginning at 11:00 am.

Individuals that need to be present for the training were contacted by our office.

Hearing assistance headphones will continue to be available from the sound booth.

I thank God from whom all blessing flow and also give thanks for all who contributed in

the success of this project.

LET'S TALK ABOUT PRAYER

Did you know that when you pray you talk to God and through his word

and in the habit of praying, God speaks to you? The Bible notes in

1 Thessalonians 5:17: "Pray incessantly".

Did you know that Jesus, being God Himself, prayed constantly; alone or in

public, before meals, before making important decisions, before curing

the sick and after healing them? He prayed to know the will of the

father and taught others. Yes, Jesus was constant in prayer, so we must also follow

His example.

Why? What are the benefits of prayer?

1. Helps me overcome enemy attacks; to fight the temptations that take me away

from God and in my weaknesses (Matthew 26:41).

2. Prayer allows us to receive God's blessings (Matthew 21:22).

3. Your spiritual ear increases, allows us to hear God to guide us and direct us (Romans8:27).

4. Allows us to ask for His help when we need it (Matthew 7:7-8).

5. Prayer allows us to be of help to others, interceding for others (James 5:16).

Brethren, let us devote daily time to prayer, mainly in the mornings and before bed, and to

talk to God. Make it a daily habit and thus you will know God's will for your life, and

guide you in your walk. Schedule it "Daily" and never postpone it. He knows you, loves you,

and knows what's best for you. Pray, pray, pray incessantly and you will see your life

transformed. John 15:7: "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask what you will,

and you will be granted."

Your Sister in Christ Jesus, ~Wanda Bango-Sanchez

Recipe of the Month —No-Bake Cheesecake

Ingredients • 2 packages graham crackers • 1 - 3/8 sticks unsalted butter, melted • 2 tablespoons sugar • Two 8-ounce packages cream cheese

at room temperature • One 14-ounce can sweetened

condensed milk • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions

1) Put graham crackers in a large resealable plastic bag, and crush them with a rolling pin until very fine crumbs form.

2) Pour crumbs into a medium bowl; stir in sugar. Add butter, and stir until well combined.

3) Press the crumb mixture into a 9-inch spring-form pan, spreading it 1 -1/2 to 2 inches up the side; press flat. Chill crust in freezer at least 10 minutes.

4) Meanwhile, make the filling: Using an electric mixer set at medium-high speed, beat the cream cheese in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in the condensed milk a little at a time, scraping the sides of the bowl, as necessary. Beat in the lemon juice and vanilla.

5) Pour the filling into the crust; smooth the top with a rubber spatula. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until firm, 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

6) Unclasp sides of pan, and remove cheesecake.
