Maintenance Reassignments cont. MoDOT Wins Excellence Award for Striping

The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Striping Leader-ship team that was charged to

ensure successful implementation of the Bolder 5 Year Direction has been chosen for the AASHTO 2011 Silver Performance Excellence Award!

This award recognizes that MoDOT was able to implement efficiencies while completing striping of all major roads before the heavy travel season that starts on Memorial Day. It im-proved our customer’s driving experi-ence, while providing the most visible roadway features and the safest roads during the spring and summer months.

Over 20,000 line miles of freshly paint-ed stripe was put down with three less stripers and no overtime. More cold weather paint and two crews per striper were used to take advantage of weather suitable for striping. Paint and beads were ordered earlier than usual to ensure that we were ready to stripe on March 1. The crews did a great job and were able to overcome significant weather-related delays. The result was that 83 percent of Missouri residents surveyed were either “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with striping!

Thanks to the following team mem-bers for their contribution to achieving great results for MoDOT!

• Jim Brocksmith• Beth Schaller• Craig Compas• Eric Turner• Jason Sommerer• Jennifer Atkinson• John Russell• Kevin Hullet• Kirk Youngblood• Scott Brelsford, Kansas City• Susan Barry, Kansas City• John Bechtold• Justin Smith - facilitator

Please congratulate these employees!

EAEC Corner: Profiles

The KC Employee Advisory Exten-sion Council (EAEC) has been active for more than three years

and serves KC District employees. The council’s goal is to foster and enhance a positive work environment for all em-ployees by assisting management and employees with cultural diversity, policy review, and communication issues.

Take advantage of this avenue to stay informed about our district. You can contact the various members or submit a concern or question through the intranet or through a paper form that can be lo-cated in each work unit. All concerns are anonymous and confidential throughout the process.

The EAEC Corner introduces you to the members of the council.

Name, title and position on the EAEC. Robert Ralston, maintenance. I am on the EAEC marketing team.

What areas of the district do you represent on the council? I represent Lafayette county in the maintenance department.

Why did you volunteer and what do you hope to accomplish while serving on the EAEC? I volunteered for the EAEC to represent the employees so that they have a voice in concerns or issues that may come up.

What’s the best part of serving on the team? The best part I think is working with the different people around the district from different work groups. It is truly a team effort and one that I take pride in being on.

What is one employee issue you hold near and dear to your heart? Being from maintenance it was really nice to be a part of the group that took the issue of pre flexing to the management team to get resolved. It was a real concern for many employees that we as a team helped resolve.
