City of Glasgow College presentation

On the 3rd of December 2014 all of the Project Search group (staff and interns)

went to the City of Glasgow College to give a presentation to some of the staff

about what Project Search is. Our lecturer Siobhan Martin introduced herself

to the staff and told them a bit about what the course is and said that the

interns will come up one by one to talk about different information about

Project Search.

Christopher Thornton and Michael Warnock - What is Project Search

Shout Outs

Many Thanks to –

Buddies, supervisors and colleagues – They supported us in our first rotations.

They helped us to gain confidence and overcome our nerves in the work

placement. They also helped us learn our roles and when we got stuck with

anything.

Stephen Prentice – Stephen talked to us about stress and relaxation. He went

over relaxation exercises for us to do each morning before we start our day.

Anne O’Bryan – Anne visited and talked about what she does in her job and she

was talking about how many Project SEARCH sites there are in the whole country.

She spent the whole day visiting University of Strathclyde finding out about what

we are doing and how we are getting on.

Rowan Hendry – Rowan helped some interns out to their rotations (as Katie

couldn’t take everyone and Siobhan had to stay in class with those interns not

going out). Rowan took us one at a time on one day. She helped with things like

explaining excel or helping to manage the work load (prioritising or organising

tasks)

Michael Warnock – Michael took part in Movember and raised a great £567 for

prostate cancer, testicular cancer and male mental health problems.

On Friday 28th November, we attended our first rotations for

the final time. We got to thank our buddies and colleagues

for all the help that they’ve given us and for looking after us

during our 10 weeks of our first rotation. We gave them a gift

and a card to say ‘Thank you’. Our buddies wished us all luck

for our 2nd rotation, we will miss them, but look forward to

moving on to our second rotation.

On Tuesday 2nd of December, we hosted an End of Rotation 1

Celebration coffee morning to celebrate that we have

completed our 1st rotation and to thank our buddies and

colleagues for their help during this time. Most of our

buddies, supervisors and some family members attended the

celebration. We served coffee, tea, cakes, biscuits and crisps.

During the coffee morning, we introduced to our buddies the

intern they’ll be seeing in their next rotation.

Gurvinder Singh For me Project Search is going really well because since completing my 1st Rotation in the Crave Café as a Food and Beverage Assistant. I have gained a variety of skills and experience and it has enhanced my knowledge in this area. I have enjoyed the basic classroom work which allows us to work on our employability skills and share ideas with other team members. That has been really worthwhile.

Euan McManus For me Project search is going very good because I am getting on well with the Interns since I started and the rotations are going really well.

Christopher Thornton Project SEARCH has been great for me so far because it gives me an opportunity to work in a variety of rotations around the University of Strathclyde and helps me improve my skills from my last job I had, such as communication and being in a team. It can be challenging at times but it’s the type of challenge that I have been looking for and will help me get a better chance in full-time employment.

Hannah Brown I think Project Search is going brilliantly so far for me because it is just what I needed. I love how, in our rotations, we get to work like we are in proper jobs with real job people like chefs and cleaners.

Emma Thomson Ryan Kelly Hannah Brown Reacting positively to poor experiences from previous week plus not giving up. Facing challenges-being filmed for “What is Project Search.?”

For the 2nd time: Thinking about others, including university staff.

Less outward signs of stress

For a 2nd time: Preparation for chairing meeting, good approach to rotation.
