WASTE WISE AUDIT

As a Waste Wise School, we continue to implement a number of strategies to reduce waste by following the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle – while developing positive environmental values in

students and the whole school community.

Promoting and recording data around Trash-Free Tuesdays and carrying out our annual waste wise audit allows us to collect evidence to support the success (or not) of the strategies we have implemented. Our Waste Wise Audit was carried out this week. Anecdotally, staff have noticed an increase in the number of students who bring waste free lunches on alternative days to Tuesdays. The full results of this week’s audit will be

available shortly.

Our students are doing a great job as they continue to refine their skills in disposing of their waste in our new coloured (rubbish) bin system. Thank you to Mrs Griffiths and Mr Longbottom for coordinating the waste audit each year for us and thank you to our school community for your ongoing

support in encouraging and supporting our students with this initiative.

SPORTING SCHOOLS - CYCLING (LET'S RIDE)

Sporting Schools is a federally funded initiative that aims to increase the participation in

physical activity and seeks to meet the following objectives:

Increase Children’s participation in structured physical activity

Provide opportunities for ongoing participation in organised sport

These programs are run by qualified external groups.

Our school continues to take advantage of this initiative to offer a range of out of instructional hours’ physical activity opportunities. This term, selected students from Years 4-6 have being involved on Tuesday after school in the "Lets ride" program. This program focuses on bike riding and situational awareness so that students are given the competencies to enable them to ride in low traffic environments. Thank you to Mr Harvie for coordinating these

valuable opportunities for our students.

SCHOOL PARKING

WILTA & IALF (RECIPROCAL TEACHER VISIT) FROM BALI

Our school was fortunate to be able to host Ibu Amel (Amalia Diana Sukowati) from Thursday 9/5 to Monday 13/5. The students had so much fun with the activities introduced by Ibu Amel. The Year 6 made ‘Layang-layang’ (kite) and had fun flying the kites when they were done. The Year 5 students enjoyed making ‘Lumpia’ (spring rolls) and thank you to Ibu Lisa Wild for helping out. Some staff had the privilege sampling some of the spring rolls too. The Year 4 learnt how to dance ‘Poco-poco’ which is a popular line dance in Indonesia. Since Mother’s Day was around the corner, the students in Year 3 made ‘Kartu Hari Ibu’ (Mother’s Day card). The Year 2 students had fun in dressing up in Indonesian Cultural Costumes and finally the Year 1 students played the Indonesian version of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ called ‘Gajah, Orang, Semut’ and pass-ing the lucky band using straws. I am happy that the students immersed themselves to develop a deeper understanding of

other cultures, hence, learning to respect and appreciate the diversity of our neighbouring country, Indonesia.
