Q.16. Some students were standing in row facing north. Only Seema was
between Sumit and Ritu. Basant was exactly midway in the row. The number of
students to the left of Basant was equal to the cube of Kalka’s rank from the left end
and the number of student of the right of Basant was equal to square of Ashish’s
rank from the left end of the row. The number of students was less than 1000. How
man y students were there between kalika and Basant?
(1) 61
(2) 60
(3) 62
(4) Data Inadequate
(5) None of these
Answer: (2) 60
Let, Kalika’s rank from the left end = x
Ashish rank from the right end = y
No of students to the left of Basant = x3
No of students to the right of Basant = y2
Basant sit’s exactly midway in the row, so x3 = y2
Possible values of (x, y) = (1, 1), (4, 8) because number of total
students less than 1000
Kalika rank from the left end = 4th
Ashish rank from the left end = 8th
Total number of students between Kalika and Basant = (60 – 4) = 60.

Q.17. In a class among the passed students Babita is 22nd from the top and Sonu,
who is 5th ranks below Babita is 34th from the bottom. All the students from the class

examination to those who failed is 4: 1 for the class, how many students were there
in the class?
(1) Data Inadequate
(2) 70

(4) 60
(5) None of these
Answer: (3) 75

34th
22th
Bottom
Babita
Sonu
Babita’s rank from the top = 22nd
Sonu’s rank from the top = (22+5) = 27
Sonu’s rank from the bottom = 34th
So, Total students who passed the examination = (27 + 34) –
1 = 60,
Let the number of students passed = 4x and number of
students failed = x;
X = 60/4 = 15
So, total number of students in the class = 60 + 15 = 75.

Before Interchanging:
Priyanka’s rank from the right end = 9th
Deepa’s rank from the left end = 10th
After Interchanging:
Priyanka’s rank from the right = 17th

Total number of girls in the row = (10 + 17) – 1= 26

from the left end of the row become 10. What was the number of swati from the right
end of the row, If swati was three place s to the right of komal’s original position?
(1) 22
(2) 24
(3) 27
(4) 26
(5) None of these
Nataraja
n
Rangarajan Krishnarajan
→Dog Premrajan
Answer: (2) 24
On shifting 4 places to the left Komal is 10th from the left end of the row. Thus,
Komal’s original position was 14th from left end.
Swati is 3 places to right of Komal’s original position.
Clearly, Swati is 17th from the left end
Number of girls to the right of Swati = (40 – 17) = 23
Thus, Swati is 23 + 1 = 24th from the right end of the row.
Q.21.Amar is 16th from the left end in a row of boys and Vishal is 18th from the
right end. Ganesh is 11th from Amar towards the right and 3rd from Vishal towards the
right end. How many boys are there in the row?
(1) 45
(2) 26
(3) 39
(4) 41
(5) None of these
Answer: (4) 41
Vishal is 18th from the right end and Ganesh is 3rd to the right of Vishal. So, Ganesh
is 15th from the right end.
Clearly, there are 15 boys to the left of Amar; 10 boys between Amar and Ganesh and
14 boys to the right of Ganesh.
Hence, Total number of boys in the row = (15 + 1 +10 +1 +14) = 41
Q.22. In a row at a bus stop, A is 9th from the right and B is 7th from the left. They
both interchange their positions. If there are 20 people in the row, what will be the
new positions of B from the left?
(1) 11th
(2) 12th
(3) 13th
(4) 10th
(5) None of these
Answer: (1) 11th
Number of people in the row = position of person from the left + position of person
from the left – 1
A is 9th from the right. Also there are 20 people in the row.
So, 20 = position of left the left + 9 -1
Position of A form the left = 12th
When A and B interchange positions, A’s old position becomes B’s new position.
