Message from District Governor Rahim Shomari

Greetings Lions, again thank you for your help this year in all areas of maintaining healthy clubs throughout District 31-N. Despite a few clubs that closed our momentum is still high and dedicated focus of fulfilling our goals continue to be robust. District 31-N is minus 28 members as of to date. Awards, pins and banner patches will be sent your club Secretaries this week. I could never thank you enough for the ongoing support you have given this year despite the inclement weather. Let us meet our Brighter Visions Goals or come as close possible to our projected amounts, we also accept donations from the private sector so don't be shy to ask

one to donate to our causes. If your club doesn't have materials or brochures on Camp Dogwood and Brighter Visions please contact Camp Dogwood to request free information. Having these brochures on hand to pass out is a great way for others to become familiar with this great organization. For all of those that did not attend the Budget Meeting at Camp Dogwood you missed a treat...The ideas and future of NCLI is in good hands with so many opportunities that will be ex-plored. The direction of NCLI is indeed on the right course. The paving, curbs and recent completion of remodeling The White Dorm the beautiful shrubs and stones is breath taking....I am proud of all of you for dedicated services and those at Camp Dog-wood. Below is a list of helpful resources that will help your club plan and implement new projects for their club.

Message from 1st Vice District Governor Elect DeAngelo Jackson

Now that spring is here, let us focus on the projects that we

set out for at the beginning of the year. April, May, and June

are the last three months of the year, so let’s kick it in gear

with those great ideas that we had back in July, August, and

September. Remembering that our ideas can make a world

of difference for others.

In reading the current Lions magazine, I discovered there’s

an article on how LCIF made a difference in district 13 OH

1. With a matching grant of $10,000 they were able to pur-

chase an eye tracker communicator. The eye communi-

cator allows the user to speak their words and needs,

controlling a cursor with their eyes instead of a key-

board or a mouse. Imagine how one Lion’s idea can

have such an impact on people‘s lives.

The Calabash Lions Club made birthday gift bags for

children with cancer who have to spend their birthday

in the hospital. The bags were donated to the Ronald

McDonald house in Greenville, NC. The staff prom-

ised to distribute them to the children in their facility

on the child’s birthday. What a great idea!

Are Lions clubs prowling? Of course they

are. Here is a photo of the Hanover Lions

Club and the Burgaw Lions club prowling

with them.

News from North Carolina Lions Camp Dogwood Tammy Thomas, Camp Administrator March 2019 News from North Carolina Lions Camp Dogwood Hello fellow Lions, Camp Dogwood is hosting its First Egg Hunt. This will be a community as well as a VIP event. April 13 from 2-4 pm. We will have face painting, beeper eggs, popcorn, and sno cones and much more. If you or your club would like to help please give us a call. We are in need of candy etc. to hand out to the participants. Please continue selling those Camp Dogwood Tickets. The money raised from the ticket sales will go to fund volunteer week, maintenance projects and other improvement needs around the camp. Spring Cleaning Time is here. Volunteers are desperately needed for our upcoming Volunteer Week, April 7-10. We are in need of Lions to paint, pressure wash and work in general project are-as. Roofing projects are going to begin as soon as weather allows. Stickley will be receiving a new roof and Udovich will have Ice and Water Shield applied to the valley. Carpet has been installed throughout the Lodge. Offices have been painted giving it a fresh new look. Maintenance is working on refinishing the counter in the dining area. The cabinet is receiving some much needed TLC. The drain has been installed at the sidewalk to help with the water run off problem we were having. Also a new drain line from the guttering has been installed right outside the lodge. The old terra cotta drain line had collapsed. The sewer replacement line from the Rec Center to the man hole at the Duplexes has been re-placed. Stickley Rooms have received a fresh coat of paint. Camper applications are pouring in. As of today Sessions 1-2-3-4 and 7 are full. Reach out into your community and lets (every Lion ) find a new VIP to attend Camp this year. For Camp this year I am in need of a few items.

The VIP’s will decorate one large flower pot each session to place around the property. For this project

Potting soil for flowers Flowers and bulbs 12”x12” or 18”x18” paving stones ( need 8)

The bird house project is still up for grabs. I would like to offer birdhouses for our VIP’s. Several men have asked for a manly craft. So with that being said. I am in need of 1-in x 6-in x 6-ft pine boards, and 1/2-in poplar round dowels. Bowls will be made out of Buttons. So we need lots and lots of buttons. And lastly Bird Seed. The Vip’s will be making birdseed cakes . Most of all we need you. Please consider volunteering this summer. I am in need of many volun-teers. Lions are needed to come and be a part of the summer experience. Several Wednesday nights dur-ing our cookout volunteers are needed to help serve dinner. Clubs interested in assisting with Bin-go, karaoke, and other activities are also needed. Remember Camp Dogwood is here year round. So if you have a few hours or a day free give us a call and volunteer. Don’t wait till April to volunteer. There are so many things to be done around the camp. Thank you for the volunteer and financial support of this beautiful camp that enables all of us the opportunity to provide a vacation “home” for the visually impaired in North Carolina

Respectfully, Tammy Thomas
