Samurai’s live honorably

Under the shogun (military rulers) samurai warriors got more central to Japanese society and they enjoyed many social

privileges

• Common people had to treat the samurai w/ respect=anyone who disrespected a samurai was killed

• Tradition placed restrictions on the samurai:

For example: certain entertainment couldn’t be attended to (theater), or they couldn’t take part in trade or commerce.

• Samurai had to follow a strict code of rules (Bushido)

• Men & Woman of samurai families learned to fight (men only go to war & woman say home and protect the family)

• Samurai live simple & disciplined lives (disciplined= better warrior)
