Interacting and collaborating NDLE 2017 Market Place Hwb Background Last year, Christopher Jones won the National Digital Learning Award for Best Community Resource. His idea was simple, but very effective in beginning to bring an element of digital competence to Foundation Phase pupils. It involved using QR codes in a hunt for Minibeasts. Since then, to begin to implement the Digital Competence Framework into his activities, he has developed a short set of activities based on creating e recipe books. View last year’s award winning resource on Hwb. Select appropriate software to complete given tasks in order to use text, image, sound animation and video. Collaborate with a partner on a piece of digital work. Digital Competence Framework Introduction The theme for the term had been ‘Supermarkets’. Children discussed baking bread and learnt about writing instructions. Activity Research on cook books, and e-books. Create own instructions and draft to improve. Work in pairs, collaborating, using Book Creator to create an e-book and save the file using a familiar word. (Using the Book Creator app was modelled to children.) Activity Children add text to images in Book Creator to explain each step. Record and add audio buttons for each instruction. Once completed the children can upload the e books onto J2e and (maybe with some help!) can create QR codes using J2E5. The QR codes are then placed in the book corner of the class for the children to access using a tablet. Learners could create magazines, books, newspapers or any form of digital publication through the collaborative process, and save and share them using QR codes. Full instructions on how to create QR codes, as well as QR code readers can be found on Hwb. This activity was designed for Foundation Phase children and the statements linked with that key stage. This session was presented by Christopher Jones All Saints Church in Wales School [email protected] How Year 1 children create, collaborate, store and share e-books. QR Codes in the Foundation Phase Activity Use a tablet camera to take photos of images they have drawn, or of the actual steps of the recipe being made. TOP TIP..Keep the recipe simple!! TOP TIPS! Children can research the topic on Encyclopaedia Britannica. Pictures can be found safely on Image Quest.
