A Distinguished Finalist, Archer is one of just six hon- orees from Arkansas. She was presented with an engraved bronze medallion at a recent SSD board meeting and recog- nized for her work in starting a community quarter drive that supports the Sheridans food backpack program for students who do not have enough to eat at home. It was in fourth grade when Jameson Archer became inspired to fight child- hood hunger. She took a trip to the Heifer Ranch in Perryville with her mother, Shannon, and watched a moving video of a mother who lost her young child due to starvation. When she and her mother got back into their car after the visit, Jameson Archer said to her mother, Momma, we got to do something about that. No child should die because they have no food.Months later, after seeing a money collection box for a local charity, she came up with the idea to start the quarter drive and asked her father, Joe, to make her six col- lection boxes for quarters. After four years, the quarter drive has raised more than $2,200 for the school backpack pro- gram. Jameson believes fighting childhood hunger should be a priority for everyone. The thought of another child not having access to food is just unbearable to me, she said. We are thankful for Jameson and her heart for service and con- gratulate her for her award. The Prudential Spirit of Com-munity Awards represents the United States’ largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. Focus: “Go and Tell” Our cup has been overflowing in

worship during Holy Week beginning

with Palm Sunday and continuing with

the Last Supper Reenactment directed

by Summer Scott and our Good Friday service, “Last Seven

Words of Jesus from the Cross.” Our thanks to our Chancel

Choir and musicians Julia Stinson and Dana Teel for their

outstanding contributions.

Hebrews 12:2 reminds us that “Jesus….who for the joy that

was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,

and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” In a

world filled with anger, we have a much needed message of

love and peace — the love of our Savior and His victory over

our greatest enemy, death itself, and the gift of eternal life.

The angel at the tomb told the frightened women, “Go...and

tell the disciples and Peter that Jesus is going before you to

Galilee.” (Mark 16: 7)

Won’t you join me to “go and tell” and share the greatest

news the world as ever known? And join us at 1st Methodist.

May the Lord bless you and yours in this sacred time of

Easter.

In Christ’s love, Bro. Daniel

The Cooking Matters Class continued through March and will finish with graduation on Thursday, April 5. The class of eight students learned good nutritional and cooking habits. They have had a wonderful time and have learned to make turkey tacos, baked chicken, broccoli soup, veggie wraps, salmon pasta, and quesadillas. We want to thank everyone who has volunteered, and we especially appreciate the church for your continued support!

The Children’s Protection Center (CPC) is a non-profit, child advocacy and safety center to help abused children. The 2018 River Cities Dragon Boat Festival, benefiting the Chil-dren’s Protection Center, will be Friday and Saturday, June 15-16. On Saturday, teams will compete at Maumelle’s Lake Willastein for the champion title in the fifth annual dragon boat competition. Last year, our church participated for the first time and the team, Praying for the Finish Line, came home with several trophies. Registration for a nonprofit team is $650 and each team paddler is asked to raise $100 each - this fundraising goes directly to support the mission of CPC. If you would like to donate, you may make donations to the church and mark your check “Dragon Boat race.”
